STORE CATTLE
On Tuesday, 7th October saw the biggest entry of cattle forward in the market for sometime, with nothing but quality stitched throughout the cattle yard.
Cattle were ably judged by Mr Blair Duffton, Bogie Street who tapped out his Champion, a sweet red heifer from Messrs Wright, Huntshill with went on to take £2,500 sold to the Judge. Reserve went to Messrs Fitzsimon, Tregallon for an Angus Bullock making £1850 at 352kg.
Top price per kilo was from Messrs Wright, Hunthills topping at £7.14 per kilo. This good home averaged £5.25 per kilo for 34 sold or £1618.53 per head. First time consignors, Messrs Shuttleworth, Drumburn topped at £1840 for a 330kg heifer. First time consignors, Messrs Ewing, Dumbretton was up to £1910 for 362kg bullock and had a store bull at 280kg reached £1480. Miss Rachel Barr, Meikle Kirkland ventured out of their postcode to achieve £2050 for a 350kg heifer.
Messrs Mair, Bargatton, another first time consignor averaged 453.49ppk for his consignment. Messrs Young, of Hightown Head, Dumfries averaged 472.66ppk for a run of 35 Simmental calves topping at £1600 for a 301kg Simmental steer. Regular consignor, Messrs Glendinning, Newfield was up to £1880 for a Charolais bull calf.
Store cattle reached a roaring trade with all vendors leaving delighted. First time consignor, Messrs Henderson, Breconside topping at £2380 for a pen of 7 Charolais bullocks. Also heading to Lockerbie for the first time Messrs Rodger, Comlongon Mains was up to £2430 on two occasions for superb Angus bullocks and a bullock to £2380. Messrs Henderson, Breconside had a pen of 6 bullocks at £2280 and another 6 bullocks to £2190. Messrs Jardine, Newbiggin had a marvellous run of 50 cattle topping at £2140 for 6 bullocks. Messrs Richardson, Purdomstone had a Limousin bullocks to £2479 twice and this good home’s cattle averaged £2261.45. Messrs Halliday, Crawthat was up to £2300 for a 482kg bullock and a heifer to £2360 for a 506kg beast.
