PRIME BULLS: Smaller show of 83 prime bulls forward at Borderways weekly sale all classes would see a slight rise on the week.

Best quality bulls were flying with pure bred Limousins topping the sale at £4079.45 and £4028.22 for 983 & 973kg bulls from Messrs Neill, Upper Nisbet, Jedburgh. British Blues sold to £3656.64 for 879kgs from Messrs Taylor, Stirling Criags, Biggar. Charolais to £3316 for 829kgs from Messrs Stobart, The Square. Simmentals to £3272.95 for 977kg from Messrs Marshall, Starlaw Farm, Bathgate. Top per kilo was an outstanding 803kg Limousin cross from Messrs Twentyman, Osborne Farm, Wigton selling to 452ppk with Messrs Norman, Little Orton, Carlisle selling next best at 435ppk. Messrs Twentyman also sold top British Blue cross at 730kgs, 440ppk.

Best dairy bred cattle sold to £2410.12 for a 677kg Montbeliarde from Messrs Grainger, Kiln Close Farm, Wigton and best Holstein/Friesian came from Messrs Wilson, Street Head, Carlisle 644kgs to £2266.88. Best pence per kilo of 359ppk went to Messrs Grainger’s Montbeliarde and next best was Messrs Wilsons Holstein/Friesian at 352ppk.

PRIME CATTLE: Yet another good number of 72 prime steers & heifers forward at the Borderways weekly sale. The good, the bad and the ugly were forward today. Trade remains similar throughout but would see the very highest quality a little sharper. Top overall came from Dumfriesshire vendors Messrs McClelland Knocksinnoch, Irongray selling 755kgs Limousin cross to £3306.90 and purchased by Steven Wilson Butchers Shop, Corby Hill & Brampton. Next best priced heifer was a 685kg Limousin cross from Messrs Beaty, Langhorn, Egremont at £2863.30. British Blue crosses to £2715.48 for 794kgs from Messrs Miller, West Farm, Aspatria. Top overall price per kilo if 438p went to the aforementioned Messrs McClelland next best was 595kgs from Messrs Little, Greenhill, Wigton achieving 435ppk while Messrs Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith sold 642kgs to 428ppk. Steers saw some serious weight about throughout and saw a days top of £3175.46 for 887kg Limousin from Messrs Messrs Miller, Arkleby Hall, Wigton. Beef Shorthorn crosses from Messrs Smith, South Flandes, Stirling sold to £3104.58 for 877kgs, steer averaged a healthy £2753.79. top prices per kilo steer was a 699kg Limousin cross from Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton at 430ppk.
