Prime & Cast Sheep

PRIME LAMBS:  On Monday 13^th October Harrison & Hetheringtons held there weekly sale of prime and cast sheep. An increased entry was witnessed with 4308 forward for sale. All classes sold well however would be less on the week with supermarket shelfs seemingly now full of New Zealand and Australian lamb. An overall market average of 299ppk was achieved which compared flavoury to other outlets with over 70% of the sheep forward falling into the heavy category. Topping the sale at £220 was a marvellous Texel lamb from Messrs Forster, East Wharmley, Hexham also top per kilo at 500ppk selling to Bowland Foods Ltd, Preston. Following closely behind at £218 was a pen of 4 Dutch Texel lambs from Peter Urwin, Hill House, Kirklinton these were purchased by local butchers Messrs Mulholland, Great Orton. Heavy lambs sold to £192 from Messrs Kerr, High Boreland selling to Yorkshire Halal Meats Ltd.

CAST EWES & RAMS: The cast ewe trade was far sharper on the week with a better show witnessed. Both ewes and rams topped at £260 these were consigned by Messrs Ingram, Logie Durno, Aberdeen & Messrs Leonard, Enniskillen. Every class of ewes met great spirited bidding and was a joy to sell.
