Kirkby Stephen Sale of Prime Sheep

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday when 4074 sheep where forward consisting of 2760 Prime Lambs, 771 Cast Sheep and 543 Store Lambs.

Topping the sale at £214 on two separate occasions was for a pen of four 42kg (509.5p/kg), and a pen of six 43kg (497.7p/kg) from Messrs Todd, Crosby Hall, Penrith.

This home also topped at 530.8p/kg for a pen of eleven 39kg which made £207, with a pair of 41kg making £212 (517.1p/kg), and a pen of four 39kg making £196 (502.6p/kg), with another pen of fifteen 42kg making £200.

JoJo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York sold a pen of fifteen 43kg to make £208 (483.7p/kg) with another pen of sixteen 43kg making £200.

The consignment of 52 well finished lambs from Boscar Flats sold to average 42.8kg £200.10 (467.6p/kg).

Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside sold a pair of 54kg to make £208 selling to Dowdings Butchers, Appleby with another pair of 45kg making £207.

Messrs Platt, Far Whittles Farm, Cheshire sold a pen of five 44kg to make £206, with the home selling a pen of ten 38kg making £187 (492.1p/kg) and a pen of nineteen 38kg making £186 (489.5p/kg).

Messrs Bainbridge, Bonnygate Farm, Soulby sold a pen of five 40kg to make £197.50 (493.8p/kg) and six 41kg to make £198.

Messrs Fell, Chapel Farm, Keswick sold a pen of fifteen 41kg Rouge cross lambs weighing 41kg to make £204 (497.6p/kg) with another pen of thirty five 41kg Dutch Texel cross lambs making £197 (480.5p/kg).

Suffolk cross lambs topped at £186.50 for a pen of nine 58kg from Messrs Lee, Carkin Moor Farm, Richmond.

Suffolks also topped at 327.7p/kg for a pen of 47kg which made £154 from Messrs Askwith, Middle Mown Meadows, Crook.

Mule lambs topped at £144 from Messrs Allan, Greenhow, Dufton.

Messrs Heron, Eastfield Farm, Warcop sold two pens of twenty one mules weighing 52kg to make £142.

Kilnstown Farms, Carlisle sold a pen of fifty 50kg Mules to make £139.

Blackfaced Hoggs sold to £132 and 300p/kg for a pen of twenty five 44kg from Messrs Williams, Adamthwaite, Ravenstonedale.

A fantastic SQQ average of 345.28p/kg and an overall sale average of 320.3p/kg and £146 for 2760 lambs was achieved with this including over 500 mule and horned lambs.

All weights and breeds of proper hard fed lambs where in demand and good to sell with trade being the dearest seen so far this week here at Kirkby Stephen.

Twenty nine pens and 203 lambs sold between £190 - £214.

Fifty three pens and 328 lambs sold between £180 - £214.

Twenty six pens and 270 lambs sold between 450 – 530p/kg.

Fourty five pens and 354 lambs sold between 400 – 530p/kg.
