PRIME BULLS: Another large show of 106 Prime bulls forward seeing a sharper trade on the week for all classes.  Topping the sale overall at £4155.88 was an 18 month old 962kg Limousin from Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton Moor, Penrith.  The same home also sold 910kg, £3803.80 and 869kgs £3754.08.  Aberdeen Angus to £3523.08 for 1122kgs from Mossburnford Farm, Jedburgh.  Simmentals to £3515.02 for 971kgs from Messrs Lowry, New Steadings, Lanark. Beef Shorthorns crosses to £3089.78 for 893kgs from Messrs Williams, Ranna Farm, Aberdeenshire.  Top overall pence per kilo of 440 went to Claremont Properties, Penrith with a 655kg British Blue cross, two Limousin bulls sold to 432p for 869kg and 962kgs from Clifton Moor and Messrs Campbell, Strawfrank, Lanark sold 777kgs to 430ppk.  Messrs Mitchinson, Beck House, Carlisle sold best Aberdeen Angus cross to 412ppk.

Dairy bulls sold to £2577.12 for a 767kg Friesian from Messrs Clark, Whins Farm, Lockerbie.  Montbeliardes to £2341.02 for 714kg from Messrs Bland, Flatt, Brampton.  Top pence per kilo of 344p went to Whins Farm with a 687kg Friesian and Holsteins to 334 for 631kgs from Messrs Grierson, Musgrave Hall, Penrith.

PRIME CATTLE: A much smaller and plainer offering of 50 Prime steers and heifers forward at Borderway weekly Monday Primestock sale, whereby trade would be on a par with the bulls and would see a rise on the week.

Topping out overall was a 911kg Limousin steer from Messrs Dixon, Lesson Hall, Wigton at £3316.04.  This same home sold two more outstanding steers to £3243.68 for 836kg and £3157.08 for 818kgs which saw and average of £3239.07 for the three.  Messrs Lawson, Hundith House, Wigton sold 797kgs to £3140.18 and Messrs Smith, South Flanders, Stirling sold 821kgs to £3086.96. Top pence per kilo steer at 412ppk came from Messrs Miller, Allerby Hall, Wigton for 676kgs selling to Pioneer Foods, Carlisle who in also purchased Allerby Hall next best steer at 404 for 721kgs.

Heifers were lacking the most on quality and numbers today with best a Limousin cross from Messrs Bland, The Flatt selling to £2591.02 to Eric Hall. Next best also came from the Flatt for a 707kgs selling to £2587.62.  Messrs Campbell, Strawfrank, Lanark sold 628kg to £2587.62 purchased by Whittaker Butchers, Accrington.  A joint top pence per kilo of 416 was achieved by DA Harrison, Hill House, Wigton with a 30 month old 617kg Limousin cross and secondly by Messrs Hird, West End, Cockermouth with a 581kg Limousin cross.

Many more clean required as today we could have easily sold double the numbers to the vendors advantage.
