Borderway Monthly Dairy Day

The November Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale had a diverse catalogue packed with quality animals from several breeds with various stages of lactation on offer.  Overall averages were down on the month following a wide range of milk price drops.  Trade topped at 3,400gns on two occasions with the overall average for heifers coming to £2513 with 26 animals selling for or more than £3000.  Buyers from across the UK packed the ringside with cattle going to 13 counites in England, Scotland and Wales. 

Topping the sale at £3400 was Broughton Lister Red and daughter of American Rovelli Red who was consigned by Mr Holden from Broughton in Furness.  She had an amazing rear udder and was giving 37kgs.  Three other heifers from this home sold to average £2750. 

Also selling for £3400 was Mansebrae Showtime Betty who was consigned by Alan McCamley from Ayrshire.  She was giving 38kgs and was sired by Jacobs Showtime the famous son of Shakira. 

The Livingstone family from Kirtlevale Farm near Gretna sold 8 heifers to average £2925 topping at £3200 on two occasions.

Cows topped at £3000 for Feizor Doc S Sabrina who was consigned by the Booth family from Lancashire.  This awesome uddered cow was giving towards 50kgs and was bred from a super line of the Sabrina family. 

The Cousar family from Newton Stewart had the trade of the day averaging £3050 for an outstanding group of milking heifers with three selling for £3100.  

Crochmore Holdings from Dumfries sold a tremendous group of Holstein Friesian cows that were confirmed pregnant for January.  They topped at £1900 for a second lactation cow that was giving 25kgs.  Another impressive group of late lactation cows was consigned by Lawkland Hall Farm in Lancashire, there were many due in May and June or were running with the bull.  They topped at £1600 for a third lactation cow due in May to the Hereford.  All the late lactation cows and heifers averaged £1426.  

In calf heifers were once again in demand however selling for less on the month and topped at £2600 to average £1766.  The best trade went to Edard and Linda Wilson from Petteril Hill Farm with Carldanton Mitchell Coral who sold for £2600.  She was due early December to Koepon Ruben sexed.    

The Jackson family from Guillyhill Farm in Dumfries sold a special group of bulling heifers  to average £1135 and topped at £1300 for a daughter of Blondin Crown Royal from their Pride cow family.

26 Jersey cross bulling heifers from Kerricks Farm near Dumfries sold to average almost £900.  They were all bred from top Jersey dams and sired by Holstein sires.  They topped at £1100 on several occasions.
