Breeding and store sheep

On Thursday 30th October Harrison & Hetherington held their fortnightly sale of store lambs in Lazonby Market alongside the third and final breeding sale of the 2025 season.  A total of 720 Mule gimmer lambs went on to average £119.72.  Topping the sale went to local breeders Mr Edwin Clarke, Howgill Castle selling 2 pens of 10 to £162. The same home sold pens to £148, £139 and £138.  Messrs Elliot, Harbour Flatt sold some flashy lambs to £150.  Swaledale sheep met a superb trade with top price going to a pen of 12 shearlings from Messrs Reed, Dyke Nook Farm.  Ewes topped at £132 for a pen of 4 crop from the same home. Rams topped at £480 for a Blue Faced Leicester ram from Robin Bell, Scarrowmanwick,

Store lambs met a blistering trade with an average of £94 being achieved especially given that 50 % of the sale was Swaledale and Mule lambs.  Topping the sale went to Messrs Watson, Croglin Low Hall who sold a pen of 10 Cheviot Lambs to £150.  Beltex at £146 from Messrs Raine, Ravenwood.  Texel lambs topped at £149 from Rory Makepeace, Black Horse who also topped the mules selling to £145.  Swaledale lambs met a superb trade from the onset, topping went to the Milescott Farms selling to £100.  First time vendors Nick Gill, Moory Lea selling 35 to £84.  This home sold 83 to average £79.78.  Suffolks topped at £143 for a pen of 25 from D & S Robinson, Hawksteel
