PRIME BULLS: Another large show of 90 Prime bulls forward at Borderways weekly sale whereby all classes were fantastic to sell with all seeing a noticeable lift on the week.  Eleven sold over £3000 and two sold over £4000 to a day’s overall top of £4179.02 for 937kg Limousin from Messrs Illingworth, Howgillside, Lockerbie.  Messrs Neill, Upper Nisbett, Jedburgh sold 949kg Limousin to £4156.62 to Bowland Foods, Preston.  Stratton Farms, Berkshire sold next best at £3765.84 for 923 kgs.  British Blue crosses to £3002.94 for 747kgs from Messrs Grainger, Kiln Close, Wigton.  Simmental to £2861.64 for 786kgs from Messrs Miller, Arkleby Hall, Wigton and Angus to £2851.04 for 824kg from Messrs Campbell, Thrunton, Alnwick.

Nine bulls sold over 430ppk with a joint top of 446ppk going to Messrs Illingworth and Messrs Neill for 937kg and 841kgs Limousins.

Dairy bred bulls sold to £2250.08 for a 686kg Holstien Friesian from Messrs Taylor, Lowsay Farm, Wigton.  Next best was 634kg from Messrs Scott, Dalton Hook, Lockerbie at £2130.24.  Messrs Taylor also sold top price per kilo of 340p for a 596kg Holstein Friesian. 

Numbers no problem in Borderway as we see demand soaring week on week.

PRIME CATTLE: Numbers back to the normal rise in Borderway weekly Primestock sale with no less than 101 steers and heifers forward with vendors seeing trade absolutely flying throughout for all shapes and sizes.  Fifteen cattle sold over £3000 seeing a days overall top of £3270 for an 872kg Limousin cross steer from Messrs Story, Newbiggin, Carlisle.  The same home also sold the second highest price of £3239.48 for 743kgs.  These steers sold to Mr Eric Hall and A & D Meats.  Messrs McClelland, Knockshinnoch, Dumfries travelled down and went away smiling with £3238.40 for an 880 kg Limousin.  Top two highest priced British Blue crosses came from Messrs Story, Jacksonrigg, Longtown selling 774kg to £3235.32 and 754kgs to £3181.88.

Top pence per kilo steer came from Messrs Story, Newbiggin at 436ppk for 743kg.  Jacksonrigg sold next best at 422ppk for 754kg and Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton sold next best two at 420 for 719kgs and 722kg both selling to Pioneer Foods, Carlisle.

Heifers peaked at £3004.40 from Messrs McCleeland, Knockshinnoch, Dumfries for 812kgs selling to Steven Wilson, Butchers Shops, Corby Hill and Brampton.  Next best was 691kg Limousin from Messrs Story, Newbiggin, Carlisle at £2971.30 selling to R & JP Mulholland, Butchers Great Orton, Carlisle.  Messrs Story also sold 700kgs to £2884 to Pioneer Foods, Carlisle.  731kg Aberdeen Angus crosses from Messrs Chalmers, Outer Woodhead, Canonbie sold to £2748.56 selling to Steven Wilson Butchers Shops.

Best overall pence per kilo of 442 went to a 586kg Limousin cross from Messrs Story, Newbiggin, Carlisle selling to Mr Bill Howard.  Messrs McKie, High Threave, Newton Stewart sold next best at 438 for 619kgs selling to Mr Alan Jarvis, Newbiggin Farm sold 635kg to 432ppk also to Alan Jarvis both of these were on behalf of Whittakers Butchers, Accrington.
