On Wednesday the 5th November Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale of store cattle. Once again a lift in trade was witnessed in Borderway Mart as numbers tighten. 350 steers and heifers were forward and sold to a days top of £2620 for a 24 month old Charolais cross out of a Holstein Friesian cow from Messrs Story, Blackrigg, Longtown. The same home also sold top Limousin cross at £2610 and two Aberdeen Angus crosses at £2560. Messrs Byers, Cubby Hill, Longtown sold best British Blue crosses at £2550 and a pen of three at £2500.
Heifers topped at £2440 for Limousins from Messrs Cairns, Windy Nook, Carlisle. British Blue to £2410 from Messrs Reed, Moss Side, Wigton. A 31 month old Limousin cross from Messrs Black, East Kildarroch, Newton Stewart to £2380 and £2370. Aberdeen Angus sold to £2360 from Windy Nook and Charolais to £2320 from Messrs Lawson, Newhouse, Carlisle.
Dairy bred steers sold to £2020 for a pen of five Holstein Friesians from Messrs Atkinson, Hawkrigg, Appleby. Two young Fleckvieh steers sold to £1920 from George Peacock, Low Hesket. Montbeliarde heifers sold to £2140 from Messrs Batty, Flimby, Maryport and Holsteins heifers to £1800 from Messrs Callander, Croft Head, Dumfries.
