Shorne British Friesian Sale

The dispersal of the Shorne British Friesian herd took place at Borderway on 7^th November with buyers recorded from 16 counties across the UK.  Trade topped at 3,000gns with the overall average for cows and heifers in milk or dry coming to £1460.

The Shorne herd was owned and managed by the Boyd family who farm at Alton Farm in Drummore on the west coast of Scotland.  The herd was established back in the 70’s and has had success over the years breeding several bulls that have been proven in AI.  

This special dispersal sale comprised 20 recently calved cows and heifers with the remaining animals due to calve up until the end of April. 

Topping the sale at 3,000gns was a special Red & White cow, Shorne Cameo Red was classified VG89 in her third lactation and was due with her fourth in February to Inch Paddington.  Her dam was an Excellent 92 pointed cow that produced over 70 ton in her lifetime.  This ultra stylish cow was purchased by Thomas Moscrop from the famous Irthingelt British Friesian herd.       

Following the milking herd there was a well grown group of bulling heifers that topped at 2,000gns to average £915.  Topping at 2,000gns was Shorne Kate and daughter of Shorne Tornado , she was bred from three generation of Excellent or Very Good dams all having produced over 9000kgs.  This impressive heifer was bought by the Drummond family from near Kilmarnock.
