MATCHLESS QUALITY FROM WORMANBY
The November Border & Lakeland Club Show & Sale was packed from start to finish with outstanding cows and heifers all producing large volumes of high quality milk. Trade topped at 3,600gns with Holstein cows and heifers averaging £3118 per life with only ten animals selling for less than £3000.
The pre-sale show was sponsored by Paragon Veterinary Group and was judged by Stuart Mitchell from Grougar Mains Farm in Ayrshire. He selected Wormanby Matchless Ruby from the Hodgson family’s Wormanby Farms Ltd as the overall champion. She was sired by Claynook Matchless and is out of a VG88 Discjockey dam who gave over 13000kgs in her third lactation. This deep pedigree was then followed by a further six generations of Excellent or Very Good cows all with huge lifetime production. She sold for the top price of the day going to Argus Roaming Farms for 3,600gns.
Wormanby also took Reserve Champion with their first placed Senior Heifer in Milk, Wormanby Jakers Rose, who sold for 3,100gns to Mr Coulthard form Longtown. She was sired by Midas-Touch Jakers and was bred from four generation of dams that all classified in the top grades and all with impressive lifetime production. The Wormanby herd sold another eleven cows and heifers to average £3140.
Equalling the top price at 3,600gns was Holehouse Luster Magic from Holehouse Farms, this Luster P daughter is out of a Jordy dam that gave over 11000kgs in her second lactation. The Logan family’s Holehouse herd had six super heifers sell to average £3325.
Topping the cow trade at 3,300gns was Clifton Almamater Clara 3 who was consigned by John Holiday from Penrith. She was fresh in her second and was giving 44kgs. She was bought by Mr Hunter from Ayrshire.
The Annadale herd form Moffat sold Annandale Incredible for 5,000gns to Mr Whitwell from Preston. He was bred from a high production British Friesian cow family tracing back to the well known Oakalby herd. His dam and grand dam both had lactations over 11000kgs.
The sale concluded with a beautiful consignment of heifer calves from Alan McCamley from Ayrshire. They topped at 1,100gns from Downview Blackburn Ghost who was bought by the Cannon’s from Espland Farm. She was sired by DG Blackburn and is from the famous Ghost family her fourth dam was the 27,000gns Riverdane Terrason Ghost EX94.
