This week’s store cattle sale had a larger entry and show of 506 store cattle forward with a good trade achieved for all classes. Steers averaged a healthy £2055.64 and heifers £1901.40 to average £1994.72 overall. Eight cattle sold over £2600 today with £2680 called out on four occasions. Messrs Wilson, Kirkmabreck, Newton Stewart sold their last ever cattle today and three sold to this price for 19-20 month old homebred Charolais. Messrs Bowman, Croft House, Penrith sold a 31 month old Limousin also to £2680. Messrs Udale, Sideway Bank, Penrith sold a pair of fantastic steers to £2660. Heifers sold to £2600 for an 18 month old Limousin cross from Andrew Ireland, Braeside, Ayrshire and to £2580 for another from Messrs Bowman, Croft House. Top Charolais were sold by David Wilson, Kirkmabreck at £2400 at 19 months of age. Best British Blues were a pair from Messrs Slack, Cockley Bank, Carlisle at £2340.
Dairy bred steers sold to £2420 for a Fleckvieh from Messrs Hebson, Chapel Farm, Carlisle and Friesians to £2200 from Messrs Edgar, Woodhouse, Carlisle.
