39^TH BLACK & WHITE SALE

APEX HIT THE SUMMIT IN BLACK & WHITE

The 39^th edition of the Black & White sale held at the Borderway Sale Centre attracted a massive crowd of dairy enthusiasts from across the UK and Ireland with buyers recorded from twenty-three UK counties and six countries including Switzerland.  Trade topped at 15,000gns with 21 animals selling for or above £4000 with the overall average coming to £4352 per life.

Topping the sale at 15,000gns was a First Choice heifer package consigned by Apex Genetics sold outside the ring for 15,000gns to Emerald Isle Genetics from Co. Tyrone in Northen Ireland.  This valuable package had three heifers to select from sired by Triton P and due in June 2026.  Their dam is the world famous Trent-Way Reesure, a prolific breeding bull dam with famous sons such as Trent-Way Reasure at Select Sires and several other hot sons ready to be realised shortly by Show Box Sires and Jetstream.   Trent-Way Reesure is in simple terms the future of Holstein breeding; powerful, with perfect legs and feet and amazing production having produced 2250kgs of combined butterfat and protein in her first two lactations.

Selling at 13,000gns and consigned by TLC Genetics and Firstlook Holsteins was another red hot First Choice heifer package.  This exciting package gave buyers the opportunity to select from five heifers that will be born in February, they will be sired by Hinge and will be granddaughters of Eixdale Pwrup Alongisde.  Pwrup was recently named Reserve Grand Champion at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto last month and was the winning 4 year old at World Dairy Expo in October.  This lot was bought by Rathard Holstein in the UK.

TLC Genetics owned and managed by Tom Lomas also sold TLC Tentastic Shell Shock for 6,000gns to the Awde family from near Penrith.  Shell Shock was a direct daughter of the 2023 All American winning Senior 2 year old, Mile View Shelly Of Helmcrest who won her class at World Dairy Expo that same year.  She traces back to one of the most prolific brood cows of her generation Silvermaple Damion Camomile who sold in the International Intrigue Sale in 2012 for $290,000.  

Evening Holsteins from Carlilse sold three fantastic heifers to average over £7,000 and topped the live heifer lots with Evening Sidekick Jenny from The Block who sold for 7,8000gns to an international syndicate of Blythbridge Holstein from Scotland and Marcel Egli & Kevin Schopfer from Switzerland.  This is super attractive heifer is full sister to the one and only Evening Sidekick Jennifer who recently classified Excellent 97 following her winning Supreme Champion at AgriScot for the third year in succession. 

Evening Holstein also sold Evening Dropbox Boom Boom for 7,000gns to the Owen family from North Wales.  Boom Boom was a daughter of Dropbox and is maternal sister to Luck-E Altitude Attie Red who was Intermediate Champion in the Red & White Show at World Dairy Expo in October and is also sister to Luck-E Acetylene Red who is marketed through Show Box Sires.  Third dam in this awesome pedigree is Luck-E Advent Asia who is the dam of Awesome Red.

Bringing the 39^th sale to a conclusion was Wolfa Potts JB Hanna Vray who was consigned by the Armstrong family from Wolfa Farm near Penrith and Phil Potts from Carlisle.  Vray was sired by Jacobs Briuns and was a granddaughter of Hanna-Vray, the two time Udder Champion from Swiss Expo and who was Grand Champion at Expo Bulle in 2022.  Born at the end of August this calf displayed incredible power and width and was blessed with a ton of style she sold for 7,000gns to the Broadmeadows herd owned by the Awde family from near Penrith.  

 

Jersey heifers topped at 6,500gns for Rivermead Addiction Candice who was consigned by the Davis family from Devon.  Candice was the Reserve Junior Champion at the National Jersey Show and her dam was Grand Champion at UK Dairy Day as a two year old.  Candice was bought by the Jackson’s from Guillyhill Farm in Dumfries. 

Two other heifers that deserve special mention and both selling for 6,000gns are Warnelview Parfect Nita who was consigned by Kevin & Christine Wilson from Carlilse.  This powerful framed heifer was a granddaughter of Warnelview Final Cut Nita EX97 and was bought by Mr Stonehouse from Yorkshire. 

Phoenix BA Porsche also sold for 6,000gns to the Allen family from Co. Armagh in N. Ireland.  She was consigned by Andrew Swale from Lancashire and is bred from a super special line of cows from Bosdale Holsteins in Ontario Canada.
