Borderway Store & Weanling Cattle Sale

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

Harrison & Hetherington had an entry of 823 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 366 Store Cattle, 144 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings and  313 Calves.

STORE CATTLE – A small entry of 366 quality Continental and native cross store cattle forward at Borderways weekly sale.  Top overall call of £1600 was a Charolais cross steer from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth.  Messrs Priestley, Cracrop, Brampton sold their best from a run of 12 to a top of £1470 for a British Blue cross.  Rose Farm, also sold the top overall Limousin cross to £1465.  Beef Shorthorns to £1435 from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae, Gretna, the same vendors also sold the top Montbelairde cross to £1400.  Heifers reached the dizzy heights of £1570 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Priestley, Cracrop, Brampton.   Others from Messrs Wallace, Gapshield, Brampton to £1480, Charolais to £1390 from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth.  Fleckviehs to £1310 from Messrs Watson, Millrigg, Wigton and Simmentals to £1305 from Messrs Lawson, New House, Carlisle and finally Aberdeen Angus crosses to £1280 consigned by Messrs Cairns, Windy Nook, Carlisle.  New faces around the ringside attracted a faster trade achieving higher averages with steers averaging £1121 +£26 on the week and heifers averaging £1019 +£51 on the week.

WEANED CATTLE : A smaller run of weaned cattle were forward but a much busier ringside of buyers were present from start to finish.  All classes of cattle were very well bid for with vendors leaving highly delighted.

Top price of the day was a Limousin bull from Messrs Wigham, Hargill House selling at £1550 with his following bulls at £1400 and £1380.  Bullocks and heifers were also very keenly bid for with steers selling to a top of £1000 for two Limousin  x steers from Messrs Clark, Quarry Bank, Frizington.  Heifers topped at £1090 for a British Blue cross from Messrs Stephenson, Winter Tarn, Penrith.  Grazing cattle are very well sought after with an abundance of grass around cattle sold to vendor’s advantage.
