PRIME BULLS: A similar entry of 87 Prime bulls forward at Borderway’s weekly Prime bull sale.  Trades back in full swing again as all classes sold sharper on the week, despite deadweight and outlets trying their hardiest to drop yet another 10p off this weeks, liveweight supporters would see cattle hundreds of pounds better off with us.  Topping the sale overall was an 848kg 24 month old British Blue from Messrs Pattinson, Temon, Brampton receiving £3799.04 to Alex Nield.  Best Limousin was 857kgs from Messrs Nimmo, Bogside Farm, Lanarkshire at £3736.52 for 19 months old selling to A & D Meats.  Messrs Harrison, Wickerfield, Penrith sold a 1017kg Limousin just over 30 months old to a top of £3539.16.  Aberdeen Angus sold to £3066.96 for 33 months old for first time vendors to Mondays weekly sale Messrs Armstrong, Barstibly, Castle Douglas this bull weighed 983kgs.

Best pence per kilo was the overall top monied bull from the Temon making 448ppk, with Limousins to 436ppk from Messrs Nimmo and 430ppk and 428ppk from Messrs Lawson, Stubsgill, Workington for 719kg and 812kg bulls.

Dairy bred bulls sold to £2586.88 for a 752kg Friesian from Messrs Bland, Flatt, Brampton and £2496.64 for the same weight from the same home.  Holstein Friesians to £2358.04 for 706kg from Messrs Mitchell, Mirkbooths, Carlisle.  Top pence per kilo of 344p was achieved twice, firstly for the above 752kgs from the Flatt Farm and secondly for a Montbelairde from Seymour Farms, Wigton.

PRIME CATTLE : A small entry of 52 Prime steers and heifers forward, as expected in the run up to Christmas week.

Today saw cattle a flying trade and dearer to that of last week, steers saw an overall average of £2714.64 for 26 forward.  Topping the sale overall at £3284.70 was an 883kg Limousin cross from Messrs Nelson, Rosgill Head, Penrith and purchased by Mr Eric Hall. British Blues from the same home sold to £3128.52 for 841kgs.  Top pence per kilo of 428p went to a 689kg British Blue cross from Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton.  Charolais crosses to 414ppk for 688kgs from Messrs Kennedy, North Cowshaw, Lockerbie both purchased by A & D Meats. Best Limousin crosses came from Bothel Parks, Wigton again with 683kgs selling to 406ppk to Mr Eric Hall.

Heifers sold to £3132.30 for a 33 month old 795kg Limousin from Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton Moor, Penrith purchased by Alex Nield.  Messrs Crichton, Loughrigg, Egremont sold next best two with 742kgs to £3027.36 and 732kgs to £3001.20 both purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle.  British Blue crosses to £2763.18 for 731kg from Messrs Nelson, Rosgill Head, Penrith for 30 months of age.  Top pence per kilo heifer and top overall went to a 635kg Limousin cross from Messrs Neill, Upper Tinwald, Dumfries achieving 434ppk to A & D Meats.  Messrs Neill also sold 649kgs to 410ppk and Messrs Crichton, Loughriggs 732kgs also matched 410ppk.  Best Native was a 583kg Beef Shorthorn cross from Messrs Goddard, West Logan, Castle Douglas receiving 388ppk to Brookwood Abattoir, Halifax.
