Christmas Wishes From Berryholme Tops Trade At Borderway

Champion Zandra Leads the Way for Espland

Merry Christmas to all the dairy farmers from everyone at H&H.  The final dairy sale of 2025 took place at Borderway featuring 104 pedigree Holstein cows and heifers in the Border & Lakeland Club sale.  Trade topped at 3,200gns on two occasions with the overall average coming to £2593 per life.  Buyers had a fantastic consignment of high quality animals to select from with quality in strong demand from buyers from across the UK. 

The Show was sponsored by Finance For Farms and was judged by Andrew Wilson Jnr. from Carskerdo Farm in Fife.  He selected Larks A2P2 Zandra as his overall Champion, she was consigned by Alan Cannon from the Espland herd near Appleby and sold for the joint top price of the day, going to Mr Coulthurst from near Preston for 3,200gns.  Zandra was bred from an outstanding line of cows going back to the Ocean-View herd, her fourth dam was imported into the UK by the Woodmarsh herd from Germany and went onto to develop and incredible Zandra line.

Reserve Champion went to the Stowbeck herd owned by the Wilson family from near Penrith for, Stowbeck Lambda Mavis who was bought by Messrs Fingland, Castle Douglas, for 2,900gns.  She was giving 37kgs and was bred from a strong line of cows, her granddam was an Excellent 92-pointed Mincio daughter that gave over 120 ton lifetime.  The Stowbeck herd sold another ten cows and heifers to average £2987 including, Stowbeck Redcarpet Mabel who sold for 3,100gns.

The top price of 3,200gns was matched with Berryholme Matchless Wishes who was bought by Manning Farms from Shropshire.  She was bred from a special cow family tracing back to Raeland Leduc Wilhelmina EX92 who was a successful show cow in Western Canada at the turn of the century.  Her third dam by Goldwyn sold for 10,000gns in the Black & White sale several years ago.  The Berryholme herd sold another four cows and heifers to average £3071.

Feizor Holstein from Lancashire sold three tremendous cows and heifers  to average over £2900 and topped at 3,100gns for Feizor Lemagic S Delia who was bought by Parkham Farms.  She traces back to the Snow-N Denises Dellia cow with many high production cows featuring high up in her pedigree.

The Crossfell herd owned by the Metcalf family from Kirby Thore sold 24 high quality cows and heifers all producing oceans of milk.  This excellent consignment of robot ready animals were averaging 44kgs and topped at 3,000gns for a daughter of Toc-Farm Fitz who was bought by the Wannop family from Lancashire.
