JORDY APPLE TOPS FOR BOCLAIR
Borderway was once again brimming with quality for the June Border & Lakeland Sale with trade topping at 6,500gns and the overall average coming £2186. There was high demand for cows giving large volumes of milk with cows topping at 2,600gns on several occasions, buyers from across the north of the UK and Ireland were recorded on the buyers list.
Dugdale Nutrition sponsored the show and Malcom Dyson judged the classes. The Overall Champion went to Boclair Jordy Apple Red consigned by the Brewster family from near Glasgow and sold for the top price of the day for 6,500gns going to the Kinloch brothers from Walton Farm in Dumbartonshire. She was a great granddaughter of KHW Regiment Apple Red who sold for $1 million in the Global Glamour Sale in 2008.

The Boclair herd sold five other heifers to average almost £3139 including Boclair Chief Echo who sold for 2,300gns to Mr W Brewster from near Stirling. She was bred from a successful line of the Echo cow family going back to an Excellent 93 classified Objective daughter.
The trade for cows remained strong with demand for animals giving large volumes of milk highly sought after. They topped twice at 2,600gns, first for Stevenson’s Susi and Red & White daughter of Cuthill Towers Roderick, she was consigned by the Stevenson’s family from near Stranraer. Her dam had placed 3rd at Agriscot in 2014 in the Red & White Show and this fine young cow now joins the Marleycote herd owned by the Baynes family.
The second cow to sell for 2,600gns was Drouner Mandi consigned by Mr Wilcox from Devon. She was sired by Agronaut and bred from a successful bull breeding line of the Wesswood Rudy Missy cow family. She was purchased by the Caldwell family near Maybole in Ayrshire.
The Espland herd owned by the Cannon’s from near Appleby continued their dispersal sale with another very milky group of cows and heifers to average almost £1800. This impressive group topped at 2,500gns for Espland Class Ada a daughter of Oconnors Lotta Class and bred from a Very Good Monterey dam. She was purchased by the Caldwell family near Maybole in Ayrshire.
The Littlebridge herd of the Miles family from Yorkshire sold five very attractive heifers to average £2215 and topped at 2,400gns for Littlebridge Secretariat Flo who was purchased by the Wilkinsons from Barnard Castle. She was bred from a super line of the Flo cow family her dam was an Excellent 92 Atwood, followed by Posh Flo EX94.
A super group of in-calf heifers sold well below their true value to average £1384, topping this group was Huntholme Kitty 77 consigned by Messrs Southwell and Partners from near Driffield. She was sired by Juror Ford and traced back to the famous show cow CRF Birch Kitty EX95. One of the sharpest eyes in the business bought this fine heifer for 1,600gns going to Mr Borland from Ayrshire.
A classy group of bulling heifers from the same home averaged £1020 and topped at 1,150gns for Huntholme Kitty 86. She was sired by Mardi Gras with her first three dams all classified very Goods again tracing back to CRF Birch Kitty EX95.
The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on the 7th July and features 320 dairy cattle in Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale.
