Prime Bulls and Cattle

PRIME BULLS: A much smaller show of 50 prime bulls forward this Christmas week. Sata definitely dropped some extra cash into the buyers pockets before the sale as a Christmas bonus with every bull seeing the dearest trade for some time. Topping overall today was a 923kg Limousin from Messrs Wilson, Reddings Farm, Moffat. Next best a Simmental cross from Messrs Taylor, Skirling Craigs, Biggar and securing the top three points for Scotland today was Messrs Graham , Airthrey Farm, Stirling selling 775kgs Limousin to £3239.50, Top overall pence per kilo of 430ppk went to Messrs Goldie, Townfoot, Dumfries with a 633kg Limousin. Messrs Wilson, Reddings sold next best another Limousin to 426p for 705kgs. Best black and white bred bulls topped at £2369.80 for a 697kg Holstein Friesian from Messrs Todhunter, Stone House, Wigton with next best 643kgs from Messrs Mitchell, Mirkbooths, Carlisle receiving £2211.92 this bull was also top pence per kilo at 344ppk.

PRIME CATTLE : A much smaller show of only 20 prime steers and heifers forward this Christmas week. As seen in the prime bull trade a flyer was witnessed for all classes forward and many more were required. Best overall went to an 804kg Charolais cross heifer from Messrs Johnson, West Wharmley, Hexham selling to £2942.64. Next best also came from West Wharmley selling a 749kg, 31 month old Limousin cross to £2606.52. Top pence per kilo heifer was a sweet 590kg Limouisn cross from Messrs Hutton, Setmabanning, Keswick at 386ppk the same home also sold 551kgs to 382ppk. Steers sold to £2333.20 for 614kgs Limousin cross from Setmabanning this was also the top pence per kilo steer at 380ppk.
