Prime Cattle and Bulls

PRIME BULLS: A very mixed show of 46 prime bulls were forward this week. Trade was very good for a mainly Black & White show. 46 bulls was just a nice number forward for the demand, next week will see full normality and buyer will actively looking to refill the chillers for the early 2026 sales. Topping todays trade was a 1008kg Limousin from Messrs Illingworth, Howgillside, Lockerbie achieving £4213.44 to A & D Meats, next best a Limousin cross from Messrs Hird, West end, Cockermouth at £3148 for a 787kg. Top pence per kilo of 432ppk went to Messrs Priestley, Cracrop, Brampton for 629kg Limousin.

Black & White bulls were forward in bigger numbers than a usual week but trade did not disappoint with a top of £2519.98 for a 759kg Friesian from Messrs Bland, The Flatt, Brampton. Holstein Friesians sold to £2447.12 for 724kg from Messrs Wilson, Street Head, Carlisle. Top price per kilo of 342ppk went to a 683kg, British Friesian from Messrs Bland, Flatt.

PRIME CATTLE : A much smaller show of 38 prime steers and heifers were forward seeing less demand this week, due to seasonal closures and a few buyers missing. Next week we fully expect trade flying and numbers good. Topping overall today was a 707kg Limosuin cross steer from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle selling to £2785.58 and to 723kg to £2747.40 from the same home. Heifers sold to £2434.32 for a 31 month old Aberdeen Angus weighing 756kg from Messrs Hewson, Jerriestown, Carlisle and a British Blue cross weighing 704kg from Messrs Miller , Allerby Hall, Wigton to £2421.70 a top overall pence per kilo of 410ppk went to 572kg British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Maw, Wintershields, Bewcastle.
