Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

Harrison & Hetherington had an entry of 816 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 250 Store Cattle, 158 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings, 310 Calves and 98 dairy cattle in the monthly Border and Lakeland Club Sale. 

STORE CATTLE – A smaller entry of 250 head were forward and an increase in buyers attending ensured a flying trade was witnessed for all types.  The sale was topped by a cracking Pure Charolais heifer sold by Messrs Stobart, The Square, Kirklinton which achieved £1570.  Closely following at £1540 was a lovely forward Limousin from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth with Messrs Holliday and Graham, Bolton Wood Lane, Wigton seeing £1490 and £1470 for two tremendous animals.  Messrs Edgar, Woodhouses, Carlisle sold Limousin x Friesian heifers to £1490 and £1460.  Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth also topped the bullocks at £1490 for a great Charolais with Messrs Dickinson, High House, Wigton selling a pen of three Limousin x Friesian at £1450.  Younger heifers sold to £1370 and £1360 for a beautiful pair of Charolais from Messrs Dempster, Castlehill, Lockerbie with yearling bullocks to £1240 for a shapely Limousin x from Messrs White, Rigg Farm, Middleton in Teesdale.

WEANED CATTLE : A great entry of 158 weaned cattle were on offer with one of the best shows seen for some time with extra buyers ensuring one of the dearest trades to date.  Messrs Dunn, Buttermere Close run of cattle topped at £1310 for a 12 month old Limousin cross heifer.  Messrs Thompson, East Unthank Farm sold Limousin cross heifers for £1240 and £1110.  Three Aberdeen Angus bullocks from Messrs Jameson, West Hot Bank sold for £1080 and £1050 (x2).  Messrs Little, Park Nook sold three, 14 month old Bazadaise bullocks for £1080.  Blue bullocks from Messrs Nicholas, Dinnin sold for £1070 (x2) and £1050 (x2).  Messrs Cowx & Son, Town End Farm, sold the top priced Simmental Bull for £1140 and two at £1070.  Messrs Pattinson, Bonshawside sold Limousin bulls for £1080 and £1030.   A beef shorthorn bull consigned by Messrs Byers, Gimmenbie sold for £1070.
