Carnduff Tops New Year Sale With Fancy Girl
Quality cows and heifers from many of the best herds in the north of England and Scotland passed through the Borderway dairy ring to get the 2026 sales series up and running. In total 175 dairy cattle sold topping at £2900 with the overall average for milking heifers coming to £2333. Since September farm gate milk prices have approximately reduced by 15% on average and dairy cattle values have followed a similar trend.
The sale was sponsored by Agri-King with the top price coming from the Bryson family from Lanark with a tremendous young heifer sired by Distegano. Carnduff Distegano Girl sold for £2900 and was producing 35kg. The Carnduff herd also topped the cow trade selling, Carnduff Sassafras Eclipse for £2700 she had classified VG as a two year old and was producing over 50kgs. This impressive consignment averaged £2667.
The top average of the day went to the Feizor herd owned by the Booth family from Lancashire with an overall average of £2725. They topped at £2800 for Feizor Lambda M Sabrina, an impressive heifer giving 37kgs and bred from a top line of high production dams.
The Belahvalley herd owned by the Hastwell’s from Kirby Stephen sold four heifers to average £2550 and topped at £2800 for Belahvalley Phantom Dahlia. She was bred from a VG87 dam sired by Claynook Casper and was giving 35kgs.
The Wilson family from Clackmae Farm in Berwickshire sold an impressive group of eight high production heifers to average £2515 and topped at £2750 for Nydie Almamater Hanna.
One of the top consignments of the day was from the Kaemuir herd of the Orr’s from Falkirk. This powerful consignment of heifers were all producing large volumes of milk from highly attractive udders. Kaemuir Envoy Iris sold for £2750 with another seven heifers averaging £2540.
The first sale to disperse the famous Halmyre Ayrshire herd owned by the Davidson family from Castle Douglas topped at £2200 for Halmyre Urr Janet, a young second lactation cow that had calved early November and was bred back again to Casimero sexed.
