Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their opening show and sale of store cattle when a catalogued entry of 511 cattle were on offer.
The sale topped at £3720 for a Limousin cross heifer from Ben Thompson, Tewfield Farm, Sedbergh.
The pre sale how was ably judged by Andrew Ashford, Bedale who awarded the overall championship to the first placed steer which was a nineteen month old Limousin cross which sold for £2520 from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside, with this home also selling the second prize steer, another nineteen month old Limousin cross which went on to make £2900. This home also sold a nineteen month old British Blue cross steer to £3000, a nineteen month old British Blue cross steer to make £2980, another British Blue cross steer at £2920, a eighteen month old Limousin cross steer at £2850, and a Limousin cross steer at £2800, with Limousin cross heifers from this home topping at £2820.
The reserve overall champion was given to a fifteen month old Limousin cross heifer which sold for £2600 from Messrs Anderson, The Springs, Leyburn.
Messrs Pickles, Far Gearstones, Chapel le Dale had a tremendous day selling cattle at Kirkby Stephen, when they topped at £3000 twice for two nineteen month old Limousin cross heifers, with this home also making £2890 and £2820 for two nineteen month old Limousin cross heifers.
The consignment of eight Limousin cross heifers from Far Gearstones sold to average a mighty £2818.75.
Messrs Fawcett, Argill House, South Stainmore sold a sixteen month old British Blue cross steer to £2820, with this home selling a sixteen month old Limousin cross heifers to £2585.
Messrs Beckwith, New Hall Farm, Barras sold a Limousin cross heifer to make £2780, with two Limousin cross steers making £2645, and two Limousin cross steers making £2535 and £2505.
Messrs Hodgson, Green Farm, Shap sold a Limousin cross heifers to make £2725.
Messrs Hughes, Dona Close, Asby sold a seventeen month old Limousin cross heifers to £2675.
Messrs Maughan, Woodfoot, Crosby Ravensworth sold a Limousin cross steers to make £2655, £2585.
Messrs Pedley, Oaktree, Barbon sold the first prize bull, a eleven month old British Blue cross bull to £2600, with a nine month old British Blue cross bull making £2400, with this consignment of seven bulls averaging £2240 at nine months old.
Messrs Little, Row End Farm, Soulby sold a eleven month old Limousin cross heifer to make £2575.
Messrs Sayer, Musgrave House, Great Musgrave sold a nineteen month old Limousin cross heifer to make £2575.
Messrs Sedgley, Low Bank, Barbon sold an eight month old Limousin cross steer to make £2355, with nine month old Limousin cross steer at £2300, with a nine month old Limousin cross Bull making £2300, and two seven month old Limousin steers making £1885 and £1840 from this home.
Messrs Slack, Stoneriggs, Hilton sold a eight month old Limousin cross heifers to make £2000, with seven month old Limousin cross steers making £1800 from this home.
Steers averaged £2040.05 (up £475.23 on the year)
Heifers averaged £2040.56 (up £364.37 on the year)
Bulls averaged £2247.50 (up £1162.50 on the year)
An overall sale average of £2045.77 (up £440.07 on the year) for fifty more cattle sold was achieved.
Black and white steers topped at £2055 for a pen of three from Messrs Longrigg, Breaks Hall, Appleby in Westmorland. This home also sold another pen of three black and white steers to make £1985, with a pen of ten selling for £1945.
The consignment of twenty-four Black & white steers from Breaks Hall sold to average a whopping £1940.
These figures prove that all classes of store cattle from dairy to continental can be sold to achieve top prices above other outlets here at Kirkby Stephen!
