Another successful May sale at Carlisle saw 10 bulls find new postcodes with an average of £6,678, up £1,872.71 on the year.

Hitting the heights of 12,000gns and top price for the day was Stonehills Tonka from well-known breeders Geoff and Christopher Riby, East Yorkshire. Having stood Reserve Junior Male Champion in the pre-sale show, the zero myostatin, polled bull made his way north to Jim Innes’ large suckler herd in Huntly, Aberdeenshire.

Andrew and Caroline Ivinson had a successful day with their entry, Sandwick Tractorman being awarded Junior Male and Overall Champion in the pre-sale show and selling for the second top price of the day at 10,500gns. The October 2023 born polled bull sold to Messrs Bell & Son, Hawick, Roxburghshire.

Young breeders, Boomer and Millie Birch achieved 10,000gns with third prize entry, Highsky T-Bone. The November 2023 born ET calf that is heterozygous polled with zero myostatin made his way to the Miltonlockhart herd from Jock Currie.

Stonehills The King, another polled, zero myostatin bull for the Riby’s reached 7,000gns with 6,500gns being achieved by Messrs Lowther for Askman Thor, a June 2023 born polled, zero myostatin bull.

Females

Following the theme from the bull sale, the pre-sale show Reserve Champion, Oakleigh Augusta Top Notch also took top honours in the sale ring selling for the highest female price of the day at 8,500gns. The July 2023 born heifer is a Meonside Pavarotti daughter out of Milllerston Augusta Lotus and sold to Ian Park and daughter Iona, Fort William.

Next in line at 5,800gns was a second calver from David and Mhairi Wyllie. Meonside Crocus Prim, due to calve later this summer was bought previously from D & T Bradley Farmer’s Meonside herd. She made her way to Holystone Estate, Northumberland.

First prize heifer, Pikestone Irania Tinka from C & J C Stephenson found her new postcode at Andrew Thornber and daughters Blackbrook herd selling for 5,000gns.

Fourth prize heifer Kimrina Trixie from Miss C J Ward sold for 4,500gns, with Alistair Gibson securing 4,400gns for his second prize heifer, Cutthorn Christine’s Tiffany.

A further two heifers achieved 4,000gns including Galla Princess Victoria from J W Frame and Lipwood Wheat Valentino from M E and T D Tailford.

The sale also saw two draft sales including the Roadway herd which averaged £2,715 with a top of 3,200gns and the Ballard herd that averaged £3,255 and topped at 4,200gns.
