SALE OF WEANED CATTLE
WEDNESDAY 14TH JANUARY 2026
O n Janurary 14th the first show and sale of the year took place in ring 4 at its weekly weaned bulls and stirks sale. A massive show of 583 were forward in what can only be described as one of the best shows of cattle seen in ring 4 in recent memory. A total sale average of £1506 was achieved leaving vendors delighted with the days trading.
Before the sale the show took place with Judge James Kilner, York making the journey. Winning the bull championship was the first prized under 12 month continental bull from Willy & Adam Watson, Saunders Close with there Pure Limousin which went onto sell for £3000. The reserve champion bull and top price went to Mr Clive Knox, Cragside who sold his 14 moth Limousin bull to £4600. A total of 160 bulls were forward to total a sale average of £1540. Bulls of every class was forward to the largest show of bulls seen in recent years. Mark Phillips, Springholm came with a superb Limousin bull selling to £260 & Andrew Kirkbride, Flimby Hall brought 3 young Limousin bulls selling to £1953. The Dale-Sunley family came with 5 fantastic Charolias bulls going to average £1844. Messrs Todd, Wyndham came with 12 real dairy bred Charolais and British Blue bulls to average £1715.
Onto the stirks and a colossal show of 424 went under the hammer with 197 seers averaging 1580 and 227 heifers averaging £1417.89.
A great show of 35 were out for the show with our Judge awarding the championship to the first prize continental steer under 12 months going to S Hardisty, How Hall which later went to sell for top price of £3000. The reserve champion went to the first prize continental heifer under 12 months from Michael Cousins, The Laws selling to £1980.

A superb show of cattle were forward with a packed ringside of buyers present ensuring all classes were keenly bid for. Messrs Hardisty, How Hall came with 5 Limousin 8 month olds to average an incredible £2440. Messrs Inman, Kilnknowe brought 6 16/17 month beef bred Limousin heifers and steers to average £2268. Messrs Bird, High Wreay brought to 10 excellent Limousin steers and heifers to average £1950 topping at £2040 for a pen of 4. Wendy Martin, Hesleywell was late in the sale however the wait was worth while as her pen of 14 may born steers and heifers went to average £1795 topping at £2080. A strong attendance was seen from Northumberland and Roman Road which saw David Hall, Lanerton sell his 11 Limousin summer born calves to average £1760.91. Messrs Cousins came with 14 of the sweetest calves you’ll see selling to £2060 and averaging £1758.59. James Crocher, Burnhosue brought 5 Limousin heifers to average £1756 topping at £1860 and Stuart Whitfields, Baty Shields brought 9 summer born Limousins to average £1732. Messrs Wilson, Marsh House came with 17 Black and white stirks to average £1460 despite the large numbers forward many more would have been sold to vendors advantage.
