Dispersal Sale of the Balgray Hill Commercial Herd

The dispersal sale of the Balgray Hill commercial beef breeding herd on behalf of David and Rosemary Cornthwaite, Lockerbie took place in Lockerbie Auction Mart on Tuesday 22^nd June.

A huge crowd of local and distant buyers from as far afield as Wales, the North of Scotland and Northern Ireland were presented with a superb yard of commercial cattle which was testament to the dedicated breeding programme over the years at Balgray Hill. Topping the sale was a 5-year-old Limousin x cow with her Limousin x heifer calf at foot which sold for £3050 to Mr SG Richardson, Low Garth, Cockermouth. Heifers and calves sold to £2700(x2) selling to Messrs G & W Halliday, Crawthat and Mr D Wilson, Belzies, Lochmaben.

103 Cows & Calves averaged £1980.09
17 Heifers & Calves averaged £2305.88

Also forward were 3 stock bulls. A 5-year-old British Blue, Greystone Limelight, sold at £4000 to Messrs Ewart, Isle of Dalton with a young Limousin bull, Spedling Producer, selling at £3000 to Messrs Halliday, Crawthat. 

The next store sale at Lockerbie will be store cattle in 2 weeks’ time on 6^th July. Please advise entries to the Auctioneers.
