Borderway Prime & Cast Sheep

PRIME SHEEP: On Monday 2nd Feb 2026 Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of prime and cast sheep which saw a much larger entry of 4626 head forward for sale. Trade across the board was much sharper on the week, which saw averages jump and returns improve for all vendors. 800 ewes sold this week , on the whole would be a much leaner and lighter show than that of late, which did have an effect on the overall average but all classes remained in high demand, Stan Gregg , Hillsborough lead the day selling a pair of pure texel ewes to £310 selling to Pak Mecca Meats Birmingham, Messrs Straney, topped the suffolks at £280 to Lancashire Direct Halal Ltd. BFL ewes sold to £210 from Messrs Wigham, Hargill House to Michael Lomax. Trade for cast sheep is set to really heat up these next coming weeks with vendors encouraged to market any they have to sell. 3826 prime hoggs this week, the and the largest show seen in the country today, a Thankyou must be extended to all vendors for their support, all classes saw a mighty lift on the week. A special mention must go the Paul Murray, Ellonby Hall who sold a Beltex lamb in aid of the Eden Valley Hospice which sold at £500 to Lancashire Direct Halal Ltd. Away from the charity lot the  leading hogg price of the day was £234 paid for a magnificent Dutch Texel lamb from Willie Laird, Unity, Brampton weighing 46kg and selling to King Alam, Lancashire Direct Halal Ltd, this was closely followed at £232 and the leading price per kilo of 527.3p for Beltex Hoggs from Alec Fisher, Lairdlaugh, Castle Douglas who showed a fantastic run of lambs, Heavy lambs were much more in vogue this week, these topped at £203 for 65kg Texels from Parkhouse Farming, Aikton, Wigton which sold to Andrew Dawson. Suffolks sold to353.8p from M & A Livestock, Bridge of Allan and to  £191 for heavies from James Delargy, Cushendal, who also lead the Cheviot trade at £174 with top per kilo going to Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown at 354.9p. Ashley Hunter, Stoneraise, Wigton consigned 230 mule hoggs and topped at £162 for heavies and to 341.5p from Gordon Cartmell, Hollands, penton Horned lambs selling to £154 for Blackies from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown, Longtown or to 351p from A Hamilton, Monalaidh, Dumfries
