Borderway Weekly Sale of Calves

On Wednesday 23rd June Harrison & Hetherington Limited held their sale of young calves where a massive show of 386 were presented .  Continental calves remain very dear with dairy bred calves coming to less money and more difficult to sell.  Topping the sale were a pen of 3 British Blue bulls from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown selling for £560 whose run of 15 averaged £510.  A Limousin heifer from Richard Wilson, Ayr sold for the same price of £560.  Dairy bred calves were seen in much larger numbers which did have an effect on the trade.  Topping the dairy calves were some Montbelairde from Messrs Maxwell, North Doddington selling for £285.  Holstein Friesian topped at £275 from Messrs Dickinson, Kirkbarrow.
