Borderway Prime and Cast Sheep

PRIME SHEEP: On Monday 23rd February 2026 Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of prime and cast sheep which saw and  entry of 3909 head forward for sale , after two incredibly busy weeks in the lead up to Ramadan numbers were slightly surpressed on the week, however the first two months of 2026 have seen our numbers 15% ahead of last year’s high levels, as more people take advantage of what Borderway has to offer, and this week was no exception, ewes met a great enquiry being over £10 ahead of averages seen elsewhere, with one vendor seeing a lift of £23 per head on what he thought would be a good return for his stock , the Ingrams of Logie Durno are regular supporters of ring two and led the way this week selling Beltex ewes to £288 , £200 again proved to be no barrier for buyers as pen after pen sailed way beyond this mark. 3330 hoggs sold to an SQQ of 380p which was achieved with a large entry of hill lambs , all classes saw a massive lift on the week leaving vendors elated with their returns , Messrs Wharton, The Snade, Dumfries lead the way this week selling a pen of 8 Beltex lambs at £270 or 658.5p per kilo to Lancashire Direct Halal and averaged £221.67 or 502.53ppk for 27 sold , hot on his heal was Messrs Fisher, Lairdlaugh, Castle Douglas who sold to a top of £250 and 595.2p per kilo to level at 505.06p or £212.23 for their 47 heavy lambs sold very well also with a couple of vendors averaging north of £190 per head, with the trade of the day definitely laying with D & W Agriculture, Lockerbie who sold a pen of 40kg blackies at £159 or 397.5p per kilo with the top gross for blackies being £173 from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown , with Cheviots to £181 from Messrs Chalmers, Outer Woodhead mules continue to sell well to £174 for a great pen of heavies from Messrs Bowman, Brampton Fell and 361.6p from Messrs Wallace, Gapshields , Suffolks sold to £190.50 for first time vendors Messrs Morrison who travelled with a great run of heavies from Aberdeenshire with Robbie Graham , Harley Croft claiming the top Suffolks per kilo at 377.8p  , more are required next week to satisfy demand
