Harrison & Hetherington had an entry of 754 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 313 Store Cattle, 174 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings, and 267 Calves.
STORE CATTLE – On Wednesday 30th June Harrison & Hetherington Limited held their sale of store cattle with a larger entry of 313 forward. A large company of buyers were on hand to ensure all classes of cattle maintained recent rates, strong cattle met fierce competition with 46 cattle over £1300 of those 18 were over £1400 to a top of £1630 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Irving, Thackmire, Wigton who topped the averages at £1466 closely followed at £1610 for another Limousin bullock from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth. Heifers to £1550 for a Pure Limousin from Messrs Donaldson, East Park, Carlisle with others to £1510 from A W Jenkinson, Clifton Moor Penrith. Native cattle sold to £1380 for an Angus bullock and Angus heifer to £1330 both from Messrs Harper, West House, Cockermouth. Dairy bullocks sold to £1340 for Holsteins from Messrs Watson, Howrigg, Wigton. Messrs Story, Blackrigg, Longtown sold a run of 11 strong dairy beef bred bullocks and heifers to £1470 for a Charolais bullock to average £1340. Messrs Brown, Maunby made the trip up from Thirsk with a real run of Beef bred bullocks to average £1435.71 to a top of £1540 (x2) for Charolais bullocks. Messrs Charlton, Crown Point, Penrith sold a run of bullocks and heifers to average £1416.67 to a top of £1500.

WEANED CATTLE : A small show of 174 weanlings were on offer to a keen ring side of buyers which ensured a great trade again with bulls beening the dearest trade for some time. Kevin Watret, North Field Park sold a 12 month old Limousin bull for £1390. Messrs Knox, Cragside sold a 10 month old Limousin bull for £1320. Messrs Salisbury, Beech Farm sold a Limousin x bull for £1300. Messrs Dixon & Sons, Haresceugh Castle sold a 12 month old Limousin x bullock for £1300. Messrs Forster, Desoglin sold 12 month old Limousin x bull for £1290. Messrs Carr & Son, Brackenhill run of cattle topped at £1185 for an Angus cross and British Blue x sold for £1100. Messrs Browell & Sons, Quarry House run of outstanding cattle topped at £1180 for a Charolais x bullock and £1100 for 3 Limousin x bullocks and £1040 for 3 Limousin x heifers. Messrs Knox, Cragside sold a Limousin bullock for £1090 at 10 months of age.
