SALE OF WEANED CATTLE

On Wednesday 25th February Harrison & Hetherington conducted their sale of weaned bulls and stirks in Borderway. A total of 324 were forward with a superb entry of beed fred stirks foreward. A smaller entry of bulls were forward with top price going to John Templeton, Dumfries for a pen of Charolais bulls aged 9 months. Limousin bulls topped at £2080 from Messrs Smith and Shepard, Appleby and Messrs Elliot, Hallburn Craft. Simmentals topped at £2000 from Messrs Kirkwood, Dumfries. A superb entry of beef bred steers were forward with a total section average of £1547.50 being achieved. Topping was a Limousin steer from William and Jim Laird, Unity Farm selling to £2200. The same homes also sold steers to £2040 and sold 4 to average £1945. Stanley Smith, Brocklerigg sold a pair of Charolais steers to £1900 and Alistair Cannon, Newton Stewart sold a super pen of 6 steers to £1700. Kilnstown Farms brought there annual run of 20 exquisite Limousin steers and heifers to average £1760 selling steers to £2010 and heifers to £2080. A huge show of heifers were forward with top price going to Messrs Walton, Merry Knowe selling Limousins to £1920. Blue heifers topped at £1890 from Messrs Mackintosh, Ravenglass who sold 20 to average £1692. Aberdeen Angus heifers topped at £1820 from Messrs Dalgleish & Waugh, The Crew. Simmental heifers topped at £1870 from Charnock, Alders Edge.
