Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart Held Their Weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday Evening when 2,677 sheep where forward consisting of 2,265 Prime Hoggs and 412 Cast Sheep.

Topping the sale at £222 where a pen of six 42kg Beltex cross hoggs from Messrs Hill & Wright, Doncaster with this home also selling a pen of six 42kg at £219 (521.4p/kg) a pen of sixteen 42kg at £216.50, a pen of ten 44kg at £215 and a pen of seven 41kg at £211.50.

Topping at 574.3p/kg where a pen of seventeen 37kg Beltex cross hoggs which made £212.50 from Messrs Simpson, Highscale Farm, Wigglesworth with this home selling a pen of sixteen 39kg making £214.50 (550p/kg).

JoJo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York topped her consignment at £221 for a pen of eight 42kg hoggs (526.2p/kg) with this home also selling a pen of fifteen 40kg making £220 (550p/kg) a pen of thirteen 42kg at £213, and a pen of 39kg at £209 (535.9p/kg).

The consignment of 53 expertly finished hoggs from Boscar Flats sold to a leading average of £214.25 at 40.7kg (525.9p/kg).

Messrs Dinsdale, High Field, Morland sold a pen of six 45kg Beltex cross hoggs at £217, with another pen of eight 44kg at £216.50.

Heavy hoggs sold to extreme rates topping at £221 for a 64kg Texel tup hogg from Messrs Lawson, Buddle House, Richmond.

Messrs Ewin, House & Holme Farm, Bishop Auckland sold 55kg Texel cross hoggs to make £214 and 56kg at £211.

Messrs Lee, Carkin Moor Farm, Richmond sold a pen of 53kg hoggs to make £210 (396p/kg) with a pen of four 64kg Texel cross hoggs making £210.50. With this home also selling 48kg to £209.

Messrs Simpson, Highscale Farm sold 52kg hoggs to make £208 (400p/kg).

Suffolk cross hoggs topped at £214 for 70kg hoggs from Messrs Lee, Carkin Moor Farm.

Messrs Turnbull, Boghall, Fife sold a pen of sixteen 54kg Suffolk cross hoggs to make £187. With another pen of twenty four 50kg Suffolk cross hoggs making £182 (364p/kg), with another pen of twenty six 53kg Suffolk cross hoggs making £183.50 (348.1p/kg) from this home.

Mule hoggs topped at £179 for a pen of eight 57kg from Messrs Wilkin, Slack Cottage, Carlisle with this home also selling a pen of twelve 49kg Mules to make £166.

Messrs Turnbull, Boghall, Fife sold a pen of ten 53kg Mules to make £176.

Messrs Allinson, Windygate, Winton sold a pen of twenty two 47kg Mules to make £162 (344.7p/kg).

Hill Cheviot hoggs topped at £171 for a pen of 49kg from Messrs Patterson, Coupland Beck Farm.

Hill Cheviots also topped at 394.9p/kg for a pen of twenty six 39kg which sold for £154 from Messrs Armstrong, Crossfell House, Penrith.

Lightweight hoggs were a flying trade with a pen of thirty nine 33kg Hill Cheviot hoggs making £124, and another pen of twenty nine 29kg Cheviots making £112.50 (387.9p/kg).

Blackfaced hoggs sold to £154 for a pen of twenty four 46kg from Todholes Partnership, Elsdon.

Blackfaced hoggs topped at 357.6p/kg for a pen of twelve weighing 33kg making £118 from Messrs Lawson, Pasture House Farm, Wigton.

Swaledales sold to 360p/kg for a pen of 30kg making £108 from Messrs Park, Low Deepslack, Kendal.

Hayllar Farms, Helbeck Grange sold a pen of 42kg Swaledale hoggs to make £143 (340.5p/kg).

Messrs Sayer, Musgrave House, Great Musgrave sold a pen of seven 37kg Swaledales to make £126 (340.5p/kg).

Messrs Armstrong, Crossfell House sold a pen of 47kg Swaledales to make £153.

All that can be said is that a flying trade for all weights, breeds and classes of prime hoggs was achieved here at Kirkby Stephen with an unbelievable SQQ of 402.25p/kg and an overall average of 368.3p/kg and £165.53 was achieved with a third of the sale consisting of horned and mule hoggs!

A whopping 51 pens and 247 hoggs sold between £200 - £222.

Fifteen pens and 149 hoggs sold between 500 – 574p/kg.

Twenty nine pens and 229 hoggs sold between 470 – 574p/kg.
