Kirkby Stephen, Faraday Road, Kirkby Stephen, CA17 4QL

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their Annual Kirkby Classic Prize sale of potential show and store cattle, when a catalogue entry of 542 cattle were on offer.

The sale topped at £6500 for the reserve overall champion, the first placed haltered British Blue steer from Messrs Marston, Easegill Head, Kirkby Stephen which was purchased by Messrs Nisbet, Ayrshire.

The judging of the Kirkby Classic was in the capable hands of Mr Andy Ireland, Ayrshire who had the difficult task of judging the fantastic entry of 60 show cattle put before him.

Taking the overall championship was the first placed haltered Limousin steer from Messrs Huck,
Sowerthwaite Farm, Austwick which sold to £5800 and was purchased by the judge.

Next in the leading prices was a fourteen month old Limousin heifer making £5500 from Messrs Everatt, Oak Tree Farm, Goole on his first time selling here at Kirkby Stephen with this going to Cropper Butchers, Long Preston.

Messrs Kelly, Nether Hall Farm, Kirkby Lonsdale sold a pure Limousin heifer to make £5300 and was purchased by Messrs Marston, Easegill Head, Kirkby Stephen.

Outwith the show store heifers averaged £2206.68 (up £268.27 on the year) with steers averaging £2030.27 (up £183.23) resulting in an overall sale average of £2116.68 (up £244.31 on the year) for 43 more cattle sold.
