SPECIAL SALE – ANNUAL SPRING SUCKLED CALF SHOW & SALE
FRIDAY 6th & SATURDAY 7th MARCH 2026
On Saturday 7th March 2026 Harrison and Hetherington held their annual March special show and sale of continental cross store cattle which attracted a much larger entry of 901 head forward for sale. The pre sale show was kindly sponsored by Cogent, AW Jenkinson & Harbro with steak pies supplied by Lindsays Butchers, Cockermoutha massive turn out of spectators turned out to watch our judges. Mr G Williams, Gwynedd (Open Classes) and Mr R Livingstone, Gretna (Breeding Heifers) cast their eyes over the 117 head of stock placed before them. Winning the championship this year was the outstanding Limousin cross heifer consigned by Mr Brian Harper, Greenwells Farm with his class winner from Class 1A this super red heifer had already claimed the championship at Decembers Borderway Babes Calf Show was one of the pre show favourites, sired by Graiggoch Rambo she sold first on Saturday morning for £10,000 to Andy Ireland and JCB Commercials. Standing in Reserve was another Limousin cross heifer this time from the noted stable of Messrs Robertson, Newton of Logierait, Pitlochery this beautiful black heifer was sired by Carnew Milreef and won Class 1B, the heifer attracted great interest pre sale and after spirited bidding was knocked down for £12,000 to Messrs Small, Wilkinson & Sedgewick. Standing second to the reserve champion and topping the sale at £15,000 was the outstanding blue roan heifer shown by Zoe Hall and Mark Batty, Horsley Hill Farm, Hawick this stunning heifer was sired by there stock bull Impulsive Phoenix she sold to Michael and Melanie Alford, Devon. The final heifer to hit 5 figures was the 1st prize British Blue Haltered Heifer from Messrs Smith-Jackson, Lipwood this was the first calf offered off stock bull Maes Supernova this incredibly sweet showy heifer sold at £14,000 to A & S Campbell, Crawlaw. The 1st & 3rd placed heifers sold to average £6100, a rise of £946.96.
Messrs Smith-Jackon also claimed the bullock championship with their 1st prize Limousin cross haltered entry already a serial winner, he has never been beaten in his class and has 2 championships under his belt he is sired by Hightown Ron and led the days bullock prices at £8000 selling to Blair Duffton, Aberdeen. Standing in Reserve was another 1st prize Limousin cross haltered bullock shown by EW Pennie & Sons, Montgomery sired by Trueman Idol this bullock was full brother to “Sassy Lassy” who sold at last years sale and went onto win Livescot he sold for £6000 to Craig Bentley, Thirsk. Bullocks 1st to 3rd placed averaged £3245.29 plus £450.29.
The Champion Breeding heifer was selected by Mr Richardson, Livingstone out of the haltered section, she was consigned by Messrs Robertson, Newton of Logierait and was sired by the Limousin bull Liscon Thierry she sold for £6000 to Wilson Peters, Crieff the introduction of this new class certainly drew great attention from vendors & prospective purchasers alike, with trade for breeding heifers on Saturday out of this world.
Outwith the show unbelievable numbers for this sale grew on the year, with trade for all types phenomenal throughout, against all odds and pre sale predictions the averages for across the board took a huge leap to level at £2495.94 which is up £276.91 on the year with heifers levelling at £2709.07 +334.91 and bullocks at £2252.66 +180.17. 95 cattle sold over £3000, 25 over £5000 and 4 over £10,000 there were customers a plenty for all types.
