Borderway Weaned Cattle Sale

On Wednesday 11^th March Harrison & Hetherington conducted their sale of weaned bulls and stirks in Ring 4 at Borderway.  A total of 307 went on to average £1497.46.

 A smaller show of 85 bulls were forward with top price going to a 11 month old Limousin from Messrs Watson, Saunders Close selling to £2600.  This run of 3 went on to average £2190. Aberdeen Angus bulls topped at £1360 from Messrs Fearon, Low Row selling 22 to average £1300. Simmental and Herefords topped at £1880 from Messrs Kirkwood, Dumfries.

A strong show of steers were forward with 120 averaging £1607. Topping this section went to a single Beef Shorthorn from Messrs Ivinson, Ousby. Aberdeen Agnus steers topped at £2000 from Mr Colin Ford, Newcastle. The same home also sold Holstien Frisian to £1950 as well a British Blue to the same price and Limousins to £2000. Another Hexham based farm benefitted from the trip west with Charolais from Messrs Wilson, Blue Gables to £1760. Simmental steers topped at £2000 from Messrs Dickinson, Penrith for 3.

A show of 102 heifers were forward and met a similar trade to recent weeks. Top price went to a Fleckvieh from Messrs Telfer, Whitehaven selling to £1980. Limousin heifers topped at £1720 from Messrs Elliott, Alston. Colin Ford topped the Aberdeen Angus selling two to £1670 and Messrs Routledge, Brackenhill and sold 5 British Blue heifers to £1800. Charolais topped at £180 from Messrs Dale-Sunley, Castle Douglas. Highlight went to Colin Ford selling 40 to average £1768.50 and Craig Routledge, Netherton selling his 25 8/9 month old sucklers to £1603.60.

The next sale of weaned cattle at Borderway will be the ‘March Stampede’ show & Sale on Wednesday 18^th March.
