Border & Lakeland Holstein Club Sale

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

FUEL SKYROCKETS AS BORDERWAY

Borderway once again attracted an outstanding consignment of freshly calved cows and heifers from the best herds in the north of England and Scotland for the March Border & Lakeland monthly club sale.  Following positive outcomes in the national and global dairy commodity markets buyers have a renewed confidence and optimism that results in a buoyant trade.  Prices topped at 4,200gns with and overall average of £2787 a considerable rise on the month and an increase on the same sale in 2025.

The show was judged by Stuart Caldwell from Baltersan Mains Farm in Ayrshire and sponsored from Paragon Veterinary Group.  His Overall Champion went to Berryholme Fuel Flo who was consigned by David Wright from Kendal.  Flo was in her second lactation and bred from an outstanding line of the Flo cow family with no less than three National Champions in her direct maternal line.  She was bought by Matt Sevenoaks from Powys in Wales for the top price of the day selling for 4,200gns.

The Reserve Champion went to Espland Crushabull Molly who was consigned by Alan Cannon from Appleby.  She had won the Senior two year old class and was bred from a high production line of cows all sired by top proven sires.  She sold for 3,000gns to Mr Coulthurst from Preston.

The Wormanby herd owned by the Hodgson family continued their hot run of success at Borderway winning the Junior two year old class with Wormanby All Sheri.  She was sired by Has It All and was bred from nine generations of Excellent or Very Good dams many with massive lifetime production.  This super rear uddered heifer sold for 3,700gns to Mr Coulthurst from Preston.  The Wormanby herd sold another four heifers to average almost £2900.

An outstanding consignment of ten heifers from the Wilson family from Clackmae Farm in Kelso topped at 3,500gns to average £2889.  They topped at 3,500gns for Nydie Hunter Laureen, she was producing 42kgs and was bought by Mr Adams from Stranraer.

Quality is closely associated with the Errolston herd and they sold a highly productive group of five cows and heifers to average £3202.  They topped at 3,350gns for Errolston Rager SC Jo Fran, a powerful framed heifer bred from a high production dam that gave over 60 ton in five lactations and was bought by Mr Adams from Stranraer.

Consistency was in abundance with the Wilson family’s Skirwith Hall consignment of ten heifers averaging £2850.  Leading the way was Stowbeck Lemagic Liqueur, a super uddered heifer with excellent feet and legs and producing 40kgs.  She was bought by the Rudd family from Wigton.

The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on Wednesday 1st April and features 250 dairy cattle comprising freshly calved cows and heifers, dry cows, in calf heifers and bulling heifers.  A catalogue for this sale can be viewed online at www.harrisonandhetherington.co.uk or can be ordered from the Pedigree Office 01228 406230
