SALE OF WEANED CATTLE

On Wednesday 18^th March Harrison & Hetherington ’s March Stampede took place in Borderway Market. A show of 434 went under the hammer to average the highest average seen in Ring 4 of £1610 being achieved. One of the best runs of cattle were seen in Borderway for some time & a big thank you must go to all our customers for your continued support. A show of 125 bulls were forward with some superb bulls from start to finish. Before the sale out judge Tom Mitchinson under took the task and placed the championship to Messrs Watson, Saunders Close for his flashy Limousin calf. However top price of the day went to Messrs Watret, Annan selling a third prized bull to £2670. Messrs Watson, Saunders Close also sold to £2520 & Messrs Miller, Crookholm sold to £2440. British Blue bulls topped at £2180 from Nick & Kayley Gill, Moory Lea whose run of 18 bulls went on to average £2066. Aberdeen Angus bulls topped at £1890 from Messrs Thomlinson, Long Park & Shorthorns to £1970 for a pen of 4 from Messrs Riby, Bridlington whose run of 15 bulls averaged £1918. Charolais topped at £2300 from Messrs Dale-Sunley, Castle Douglas & Simmentals to £2310 from The Harriers Farms.  

Onto the stirks and a simply outstanding show was seen. Before the sale out judge and local supporter William Miller has the task of Judging after looking over the finest show of stirks the champion was awarded to the first prize continental heifer from Nick and Kayley Gill. This flash heifer later went onto sell for top price of the day of £3450 selling to Richard Livingstone, Gretna. The same home also sold heifers to £3300 & £2200 selling 8 to average £2263. The first prize steer from Colin Little, The Guards went to sell for £1780. Charolais heifers topped at £1860 from Messrs Gilleard, Doncaster whose run of 14 Limousin and Charolais went to average £1797.14 topping £1980 for his run of 11-12month old cattle. Steers topped at £1980 x2 both from Messrs Robinson, Hawksteel for his Limousin steers. Messrs Murray, The Thorp also sold steers to £1920 and some smart cow making heifers to £2150 and £2120. British Blue steers topped at £1730 for a super steer from Duncan Bell, Brampton & Charolais to £1810 from Craig Routledge, Netherton. Messrs Cowan, The Ash came with 12 Limousin & Angus steers to average £1818. Topping at £2100. A great run of Charolais steers & heifers were forward from Jim Muir, Bargalton selling his run of 27 9/10 months to average £1620 topping at £1740. Anthony Errington, Penrith brought 15 Simmentals & Fleckvieh dairy bred steers to average £1595 topping at £1700.
