Borderway Store and Breeding Sheep Sale

On Monday 23rd March Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of store lambs and breeding sheep at Borderway Mart.  Another strong show of stores were forward with a sale average of £126.15 being achieved.  Topping the sale went to Messrs Lewis, Penrith selling a single Charollais to £182 and Messrs Scott, Wigton selling a pair of Texel lambs to the same price.  Beltex lambs topped at £150 from Jack Edgar, Fellside who also sold Beltex to £170.  Suffolks topped at £164 from Dan Charnock, Roweltown and Swales topped at £123 for a pen of eleven from Steven Brown, Dufton who sold 55 to average £110.  Messrs Thompson, Penrith sold Cheviots to £150.

A growing number of ewes and lambs were forward with an average of £136 per life being achieved.  The sale topped at £190 per life for a Suffolk gimmer with a single Beltex lambs from Olivia Grindley, Seymour Farms.  This run of 18 went on to sell for £161.22 average.  Ewes topped at £170 for a  Beltex with single tup lamb from John Gilhespy, Tedcastle.  The same home sold Mules to £120 per life.  Suffolks topped at £126 a life from David Mattinson, Cragg Farm for an ewe with two lambs.  The first hoggs of the year were forward with Messrs Ramsey, Dockray Hall selling a Texel hogg with a single lamb to £160.
