Borderway Prime Bulls and Cows.

PRIME BULLS: A much smaller entry of 60 Prime bulls forward which was well short of buyers requirements, overall, the sale lacked the very best shaped and quality types but did see a very sharp trade for all sold.  Topping the sale overall was first time vendors Messrs Andrews, Letter Farm, Perthshire with a 23 month old, 772 kg Limousin selling to £3335.04.  Messrs Cooper, Hallmoor, Carlisle sold next best at £3160.12 for 798kg Limousin cross.  British Blues topped at £3151.26 for an 861kg Dairy bred from Messrs Mandale, Lambfield, Carlisle.  A days top pence per kilo of 432 also went to Messrs Andrews 772kg Limousin.

Dairy bulls topped at £2276.68 for a 692kg Friesian from Messrs Bland, The Flatt, Brampton with a 674kg Montbelairde sold to £2264.64 from Messrs Little, Kirkbride, Wigton.  A top pence er kilo of 337 went to a 625kg Holstien Friesian from Messrs Dickinson, High House, Wigton.

PRIME CATTLE : Another great entry of 92 Prime steers and heifers forward at Borderway’s weekly Primestock sale where yet another small improvement was witnessed on the week.  A high of £3370.80 was achieved by Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton with a 21 month old 795kg British Blue cross Steer.  Next best and top priced Limousin was 803kg from Messrs Story, Newbiggin, Carlisle at £3179.88 and 782kgs to £3049.80.  Natives sold well as always in Borderway and peaked at £2954.84 for an 854kg Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Harrison, Aldermanseat, Gretna and Luings weighing 786kg from Messrs Miller, Arkleby Hall, Wigton at £2939.64.  Top overall pence per kilo steer was also the top overall pounds per head from Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks at 424p for 795 kgs. Limousin’s to 412p for 665kgs form Messrs Mitchell, Mirkbooths, Carlisle.

Heifers peaked at £2993.76 for a 693kg Limousin cross from Messrs Story, Newbiggin, Carlisle.  The top four heifers were all consigned by Messrs Story and were purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle and R & JP Mulholland Butchers, Great Orton, Carlisle.  The top overall pence per kilo of 438p went to a 663kg Limousin cross from Newbiggin Farm and sold to R & JP Mulholland.   Next best was a 586kg Limousin from Messrs Beattie, Woodfield, Annan at 436p selling to Steven Wilson Butchers Shops, Corby Hill and Brampton.
