Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart Held Their Weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday Evening when 3,125 sheep where forward consisting of 2,820 Prime Hoggs and 305 Cast Sheep.

Topping the sale at £285 was a 60kg Beltex hogg from Messrs Mason, East Farm, Malton.

Topping the sale at 625p/kg (£250) was a pen of five 40kg Beltex cross hoggs from JoJo Andrews, Boscar Flats.

This pen was our 1^st Prize pen of five Continental Hoggs in our Easter Show, Judged by James Birkbeck.

Messrs Mason, East Farm also sold 49kg Beltex hoggs to £257 (524.5p), with a pen of five 45kg making £241 (535.6p), a pen of six 39kg £238.50 (611.5p), a pen of ten 44kg £232.50 (528.4p) and a pen of twelve 39kg £225 (576.9p)

With this consignment of 100 43.1kg Beltex hoggs selling to average £227.92 and 528.3p.

JoJo Andrews sold 54kg Beltex to £255 (472.2p), with a pen of seventeen 40kg making £242.50 (606.3p), a pen of ten 40kg hoggs to make £242 (605p), seventeen 41kg making £240 (585.4p), a pen of 49kg making £240 (489.8p), a pen of eleven 40kg to make £238 (595p) and a pen of eighteen 40kg making £231 (577.5p).

With this consignment of 159 42.1kg hoggs selling to average £230.14 and 547p.

Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park sold Texel hoggs at 52kg to make £252 (484.6p).

Messrs Thompson, Stainby House Farm, Grantham sold a pen of five 38kg Beltex cross hoggs to 618.4p (£235).

This home also sold a single 54kg hogg to achieve £250 (463p), and a pen of twenty 56kg to make £230 (410.7p).

With this consignment of 216 55.7kg hoggs selling to average £227.40.

Messrs Simpson, Highscale Farm, Wigglesworth sold a pen of seventeen 38kg Beltex hoggs to make £227 (597.4p),

With a pen of eighteen 37kg making £226.50 (612.2p) and a pen of fifteen 38kg to make £220 (578.9p)

With this consignment of 66 38.7kg hoggs selling to average £221.86 and 573.5p.

Messrs Patchett, West Summersides, Ripon sold a fantastic run of 643 Texel cross Mule Homebred Hoggs to average £208.25 and 380p for 54.8kg hoggs.

Suffolk hoggs sold to top at £250 for a 62kg Suffolk hogg (403.2p) from Messrs Fisher, Haber Farm, Crosby Ravensworth.

Messrs Patterson, Coupland Beck, Appleby sold a pen of fourteen 42kg Suffolk £192 (452.4p).

JoJo Andrews, Boscar Flats also sold 57kg Suffolks to make £229 (401.8p).

Messrs Turnbull, Boghall, St Andrews sold a pen of thirty five 52kg to make £209.50 (402.9p) and a pen of eighteen 52kg £205 Suffolk (410p).

Mule hoggs topped at £200 for a pen of ten 60kg from Messrs Wells, Middle Shipley, Bishop Auckland.

Scotch Blackfaced hoggs topped at £195 for the 1^st Prize pen of five (46kg) (423.9p) from Messrs Hill & Wright, Mill Farm, with this home also selling a pen of five 42kg Blackfaced hoggs at £175 (416.7p), with three pens of twenty 40kg scotch blackfaced hoggs selling for £169.50 (423.8p).

Swaledale hoggs sold to £192 (408.5p) for a pen of 47kg from Messrs Hird, Westray Farm, Cockermouth.

Messrs Fisher, Haber sold a pen thirty 44kg Swaledale hoggs to make £155.50.

Messrs Patterson, Coupland Beck, Appleby sold a pen of ten Herdwick hoggs for £183 (446.3p)

A fantastic SQQ average of 455.5p/kg and an overall sale average 411.94p/kg with a whopping £201.55 was achieved, with many more hoggs needed to fulfil buyers requirement here at Kirkby Stephen on a weekly basis.
