On Wednesday 1^st April Harrison & Hetherington’s conducted the weekly sale of weaned  bulls and stirks in Ring 4. A very similar show on the week was forward with 257 going on to average £1534.12. An improved show of bulls were forward with a shortage of strong bulls forward making the top of one of the dearest trades seen. Topping the section went to Messrs Tattersall, Langholm selling 2 Charolais bulls to £2790, the same home sold to £2710, Angus bulls topped at £2110 from Messrs Lawson, Hallington. Hereford’s topped at £1860 from Messrs Scott, Bleabank while Fleckvieh bulls topped at £1800 from Mr Thomas Todd, Wyndham. Limousins topped at £2280 for a year old bull from Messrs Reid, Lockerbie & David Watson, Parceltown sold a Simmental to £2120.

Steers went on to average £1592.95 with top price going to a Charolais steer from David Watson, Parceltown selling to £2020, this run of 12 10/11 month old steers & heifers went on to average £1823.33. Angus steers topped at £1890 from Richard Armstrong, Wooler with 17 going on to average £1545.29. Limousin steers topped at £1940 from Gordon farms, Hexham, and Fleckviehs topped at £1500 for 5 from Anthony Errington, Penrith, Luing steers topped at £1610 from Messrs Cadzow, Tranent also selling Beef Shorthorns to £1560 & Salers to £1610. Blue steers topped at £1760 from Craig Routledge, Netherton whose run of 18 av. £1573.89.

Heifers went on to average £1534.12 with top price going to Messrs Blamire, Carlisle selling a blue to £1790. Nick Gill, Moory Lea came with 8 12/13 month Limousin and Blue heifers to average £1680 topping at £1780. Mes Watson, Millrigg sold 8 Montbeliarde heifers to £1570 topping at £1660. Messrs Cleaby, Linden house sold 3 Limousin heifers aged 10 month to £1670. Simmental heifers topped at £1600 from Callum Pitchford, Carlisle and Charolais topped at £1680 for 3 from David Watson, Parceltown. A big show is expected next week!
