Plenty of interest for dairy at Borderway
A flying trade at the top end ensured plenty of interest from a huge ringside of buyers backed up by travelled volume buyers ensured a great trade for all, with standout cows continuing to command a premium.
Top price honours at £3200
Leading the day at £3200 was Halmyre Urr FV Jinks from the Davidson family, currently dispersing their herd through the monthly sales.
This impressive second calver, classified VG87 and producing 38 litres per day, combined performance with pedigree—being by Halmyre Urr Fancy Victory and backed by four generations of VG dams. She found a new home with Neil Sloan for the Knowe Herd, Ayrshire.
Strong demand for fresh heifers
Next in line at £3050 was the British Friesian heifer Queenscairn Falcon Rosette 3 from the Shanks family, Kelso. Their run of ten heifers levelled at a solid £2594, reflecting consistent demand for well-bred Friesians.
Two Holstein heifers then reached £3000:
Pacific Zolton Irena, a late February calved Claynook Zolton daughter from Nether Pratis Farming, part of a 16-head consignment averaging £2645.
Also Liscabank Taos Trudy from the Parkinson family, a fresh heifer by Leaninghouse Taos out of a VG dam
These stronger prices underline that freshly calved, high-yielding types remain the trade drivers.
A handful of late lactation grazing-type cows met a steadier trade, topping at £2000 for a third calved British Friesian from Messrs Smith, due July to a Hereford.
In-calf heifers peaked at £2950 for a Holysmokes daughter from Edward & Linda Wilson, due in May to sexed Cogent Koepon Ruben. Their trio averaged £2893.33, showing continued confidence in close-calving stock.
The dispersal of Holstein Friesian bulling heifers from Messrs Hutchinson at The Hill, sold to £1520 on two occasions, whilst maiden heifers topped at £1050 for Liscabank Diesel Roxy, an August 2025-born heifer from the Parkinson family.
