SALE OF WEANED CATTLE

The first sale of the new financial year for weaned bulls and stirks took place in Borderway within Ring 4. A huge show of 393 were forward with once again the highest average ever seen of £1624.38 being achieved.

A large entry of bulls was anticipated and the 154 forward averaged £1814.94. For a sale that included weaned calves and bulls up to 30 month old a well done must go to our vendors for coming with a great show. Topping the sale was a pair of Charolais bulls from MP Tattersall, Langholm selling to £2650. The same home sold Angus bulls to £2240. Limousin bulls topped at £2470 twice from Mark Byers, Whitehills. As well as selling a British Blue bull to the same price. Vendors are now travelling the distance to take advantage of Ring 4 with Mr Wilson, Selkirk coming with 46 superb Simmental, Shorthorn & Luing bulls selling to £2066. Simmental’s sold to £2310, Shorthorns to £2220 & Luings to £1800. Hereford bulls sold to £1680 for 3 from Messrs Kirkwood, Dumfries.

A great show of steers was forward with the top end being £60-80 dearer on last week. Top price went to a Limousin steer from Messrs Cadzow, Tranent selling to £2190. David Watson, Parceltown sold a superb Angus steer to £1780 & Simmentals to £1900. Blue steers topped at £1750 from Richard Metcalfe, Home Farm who brought a superb run of 36 to average £1671. Charolais steers topped at £1750 from Messrs, Beaty, Maryport. Dairy bred steers topped at £1680 from Messrs Skelton, Bromfield. Heifers were a super trade from the get go with a Blue heifer from Richard Metcalfe, Home Farm selling to £2220. Angus heifers went to £1700 from Messrs Graves, Cockermouth & Friesian’s to £1730 from Messrs Lindsay, Lanark. Limousins sold to £1780 from Messrs Wigham, Hargill House for a super pair. Charolais topped at £1780 from Sue Dale-Sunley, Castle Douglas for a sweet pen of 5. Roger Graves sold Belted Galloway heifers to £1710 & £1590. A great show was seen and many more could be sold to advantage in Borderway. Can you afford not to sell with us?
