Borderway Prime Cattle and Bulls

PRIME BULLS: A much larger entry of 115 prime bulls forward at the Borderway weekly primestock sale whereby a penny or two may have been off today you wouldn’t even notice, numerous bulls over £3000 but the highlights see three sell over £4000 to a nearly £5000 at £4819.42 for a superb pure British Blue weighing 1057kg  from Messrs Scott Gateside, Linlithgow, best Limousin was 1012kg from Messrs Priestly Cracrop, Brampton at £4270.64 and Messrs Mullholland, Carlilse sold 995kg to £4218.80, The overall priced bull was also highest price per kilo at 456 with the next best two bulls at 446 and 440. From DA Harrison, Hill House, Wigton for 739kg and 728kg Limousin crosses. Dairy bulls sold to a high of £2521.08 for an 846kg Holstein Friesian from Messrs Clark, Whins Farm, Lockerbie. Montbéliard  to £2325 for 750kg for Messrs Grainger, Kiln close, Wigton and Friesians to £2248.24 for 716kg for Messrs Preston Wed Holme House, Wigton. Top price per kilo of 338 went to a Holstein Friesian from Messrs armour, Milton, Moffat for 621kg.

PRIME CATTLE:  Yet another great entry of 90 prime steers and heifers forward at the ever growing Borderway primestock ring, whereby all classes would remain as firm as last week with the top end steers marginally sharper on the week. £3453.12 the top overall price was an 872kg, 24 month old Limousin cross steer from Messrs Wilson Petteril Hill, Carlisle. Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton sold a British Blue cross steer to £3245.30 for 782kg. Messrs Dixon, Lesson Hall, Wigton had 766kg Limousin to £3232.52 and DA Harrison, Hill House, Wigton sold two Charolais crosses to £3100.80 and £3091.86 for 816kg and 801kg. Top pence per kilo steer of 422 went to Messrs Dixon, Lesson Hall with their 766kh Limousin cross steer to Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. Heifers lacked quality throughout but Mullholland Butcher Shop, Great Orton found a fantastic 632kg Limousin cross heifer from Gass Nunscleugh, Carlilse at £2717.60 and this heifer was also top overall average at 430ppk. Messrs Beaty Langhorn, Egremont sold 739kg Dairy Bred Limousin cross to £2697.35 and a Dairy Bred British Blue cross at £2563.08 for 689kg both selling to Mr Eric Hall. A next best price was 529kg Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Sisson Kelbarrow, Penrith at 428ppk purchased by Whittaker’s Butchers, Accrington.
