SALE OF WEANED CATTLE

The weekly sale of weaned bulls and stirks in ring 4 with another strong show of 371 being forward. A very dairy bred show was forward with quality cattle being in short supply. Grass cattle were in strong demand with the stronger end meeting resistance. A smaller show of bulls was forward with a lack of top-notch bulls present. Topping the sale went to some Limousins selling to £2200 twice from M/s Scott, Bleabank & British blues from Messrs Rawlings, Cockermouth selling to the same price. Shorthorn bulls topped at £1980 from Messrs Wyllie, Cummertrees & Simmentals sold to £1690 from Messrs Farrar, Carlisle. Dairy bred bulls topped at £1400 from first time vendor Messrs Noble, Penrith. Messrs Mattocks, Row Hall sold a pen of 6 British Frisian bulls aged 7 months to £1000.

A show of 150 steers was forward topping at £2240 for a single Limousin from JJ, Johnstone, Low Flow. This home sold 6 to average £1895. Hereford steers topped at £1700 for a pen of 4 year old steers and another 4 to £1680. Simmental steers topped at £1750 for a strong single from David Watson, Parceltown. While blues topped at £1680 from RW, Dixon, Stocksfield. Shankbridge end farms sold a pen of Charolais steers to £1830. Angus steers topped at £1640 from Arthur Mcnabey, Newton Stewart. While Holsteins topped at £1610 from M/s Wilson, Wigton.

Heifers topped at £2160 from John Eve, Stubbsgill & Blue heifers topped at £1700 from Messrs Beaty, Newton field for a strong pen of 8. The same home sold Charolais to £1800. Angus heifers topped at £1610 from Messrs Wilson, Marsh house. Messrs Cadzow, Duncrahill sold a run of 28 Angus and Limousin heifers sold to £1274.64
