PRIME BULLS: Yet another large show of over a 100 Prime bulls forward with 111 sold.  All classes were less money on the week and proved harder work.  Two bulls still managed to sell over £4000 to £4342.48 for 1054kg Limousin from Messrs Henshall, Sarkshields, Lockerbie and £4194.30 for 1023kg from Strattons Farms, Berkshire.  Plenty good shaped and weighed bulls selling well into high £3000’s.  Top overall pence per kilo of 434 went to 899kg Limousin from Messrs Scott, Daltonhook, Lockerbie and Strattons Farms sold 900kg to 428p.

Dairy bred bulls peaked at £2216.50 for a 775kg Friesian from Messrs Grainger, Kiln Close, Wigton.  Messrs Dickinson, High House, Wigton sold an over 30 month Friesian to £2180.80.  Messrs Irving, Becton Hall, Canonbie sold Holstein Friesians to £2136.40 for 763kgs.  A top pence per kilo of 310 went to a 642kg Holstein Friesian from Claremont Properties, Hay Close, Penrith.

Despite the lesser trade this does look to be the national trend and my predictions are that trade will come less still before it gets better.

PRIME CATTLE :  A record show this year of 120 Prime steers and heifers forward, results were in line with the national trend seeing it harder work and lots of big weighted animals on offer.  Despite a lesser trade some cattle are still a county mile above whats possible elsewhere with Messrs Story, Newbiggin, Carlisle lifting £3231.10 for an 818kg British Blue cross steer.  Messrs Story, Jacksonrigg, Longtown sold best Blonde cross to £3130.38 for 837kgs.  DA Harrison, Hill House, Wigton sold a 788kg British Blue cross to £3088.96 and Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse, Carlisle to £3067.30 for 829kgs.  Top pence per kilo steer to 395p went to Messrs Story, Newbiggins overall pounds per head.

Heifers sold to £3091.86 for an 801kg Limousin cross for Messrs Story, Newbiggin, Carlisle.  Messrs Miller, Arkleby Hall, Wigton sold next best at £2699.68.  A top pence per kilo of 392p went to a 680kg Limousin cross from Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse, Carlisle.  Messrs Airey, The Close, Carlisle sold 632kgs to 390ppkg.

Despite the lesser trade, this is the National trend and it will get worse before it gets better.
