SALE OF WEANED CATTLE

A large show of weaned bulls and stirks were seen in ring 4 at the weekly sale in Borderway market. A strong show of 419 were forward to average a total sale price of £1386.25.

A larger show of 91 bulls was forward with top price going to a pure Limousin from Messrs Graham, Kirklinton selling to £2380. Blue bulls topped at £2370 for a pair from Messrs Burrow, Brampton. Angus bulls topped at £1930 from Messrs Fletcher, Lockerbie. Galloway bulls topped at £2310 from Ian Armstrong, Shankfield who sold 4 to av. £2275. Messrs Oliver, Walton, Woodhead came with 7 year old Limousin bulls to av. £2032.

A strong show of 113 steers was forward to £1518.41 with a Limousin selling to £1950 from Messrs Bewley, Belsay. A strong show of Dairy bred British Blues were forward with a section average of £1530 being achieved. Topping went to Messrs Beaty, Newton Field selling 4 to £1750. Charolais steers topped at £1610 from Andrew Stott, Shawhead & Simmentals sold to £1680 from Messrs Cadzwo, Tranent. Messrs Carruthers, Rawfoot sold a pair of Angus steers to £1710. Messrs Lowthian, Penrith sold Hereford steers to £1770.

215 heifers went on to average £1318.29 with top price going to a great British blue heifer from Messrs Bell, The Changue selling to £1850. Limousin heifers sold to £1830 from John Armstrong, Broomhills. Blondes topped at £1720 from Will Gill, Fell End who sold 11 to average £1569. Angus heifers sold to £1690 from Messrs Bewley, Washington. Hereford topped at £1340 from Messrs Maughan, Beck Farm.
