Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart Held Their Weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday Evening when 2,537 sheep where forward consisting of 2,050 Prime Hoggs, 473 Cast Sheep and 14 Spring Lambs.

 

Topping the sale at £262 on two separate occasions where firstly for a pen of twelve 46kg Beltex cross hoggs from JoJo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York with this good home also selling a 61kg hogg to make £262.

This regular consigner also topped at 605.1p/kg for a pen of eighteen 39kg Beltex hoggs which made £236, with a pen of twenty 40kg making £240 (600p/kg), eleven 42kg at £240 (571.4p/kg), a pen of eight 52kg at £246, seven 50kg at £240, nine 42kg at £238 (566.7p/kg), and a pen of nineteen 40kg at £231 (577.5p/kg).

The consignment of 114 smart full of meat hoggs sold to average 43.5kg £239.44 and 550.7p/kg.

Messrs Somerville, Lansmere, Penrith sold 51kg hoggs to £250, with this home also selling a pen of four 43kg to make £236.

Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown, Longtown sold a pen of three 46kg hoggs to make £242.

Messrs Hodgson, Green Farm, Shap sold 48kg to £238 and 77kg Texel hoggs to £236.

Suffolk cross hoggs topped at £215 for a pen of twenty three from Messrs Hetherington, Old Hall Farm, Penrith.

Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown sold a pen of fifteen 58kg Suffolk cross hoggs to make £208.50.

This home also sold a pen of thirty 46kg Hill Cheviot hoggs to make £193.50, and also topped the Hill Cheviots at 432.6p/kg for a pen of thirty one 43kg which made £186, with another pen of thirty 44kg making £190 (431.8p/kg).

Messrs Fisher also topped the Blackfaced hoggs at £190.50 for a pen of nineteen 53kg, with a pen of thirty five 44kg Blackfaced hoggs making £185.50 and also topping at 421.6p/kg. With another pen of thirty six 44kg making £184.50 (419.3p/kg).

The wonderful consignment of 525 Blackfaced hoggs from Smalmstown sold to average 46kg £183 (398p/kg).

Shetland hoggs sold to £109 for a pen of seven 33kg from Messrs Wood, Middle Ridge Farm, Out Rawcliffe.

Twenty seven pens and 151 hoggs sold between £220 - £262.

Fifty four pens and 279 hoggs sold between £210 - £262.

Twelve pens and 103 hoggs sold between 500 – 605p/kg.

An overall sale average of 386.8p/kg and an SQQ of 412.3p/kg was achieved which included 720 horned hoggs!
