Harrison & Hetherington held their May Day Show & Sale of store cattle when a catalogued entry of 945 head were on offer.

Topping the sale at £3500 and receiving the Eden Farm Supplies Silver Cup was the Overall Champion, a 11 month old Limousin cross steer from Messrs Smith Jackson, Lipwood, Haydon Bridge, which was purchased by Messrs Dickinson, Derby.

With this home also selling Limousin heifers to £2750. The consignment of Twenty Limousin and British Blue cross bullocks and heifers at 10/12 month old sold to average £2130.

Our judge Alan Barnett, Shap had a fantastic show of cattle put out in front of him which was a credit to consignors.

The reserve championship was awarded to the first placed Limousin heifer, a 13 month old which sold for £2320 from Messrs Millar, Crookholme Farm, Canonbie and was purchased by Tom Pyman and Alice Harrison, Tebay.

With British Blue steers from this home selling to £2680 and a nine month old British Blue heifer selling to £2500.

Today saw the final consignment of notable Store cattle from the renowned Crookholme herd sell at Kirkby Stephen with the consignment averaging £2251.67.  The herd dispersal from this home will take place at Kirkby Stephen on Monday 18th May.

Messrs Slack, Plumtree House, Newby sold the second prize Limousin heifer to make £3000.

Messrs Pickles, Far Gearstones, Chapel le dale sold a Limousin heifer to £2680.

Messrs Hayton, Asby Grange, Great Asby sold a eleven month old British Blue heifer to make £2660.

The first prize British Blue heifer rosette was awarded to Everatt Farming with the heifer going on to sell to £2580 with Limousin heifer from this home selling to £2570 and £2490.

Messrs White, Rigg Farm, Middleton in Teesdale sold a ten month old Limousin heifer to make £2540.

Messrs Hodgson, Soulby Grange, Soulby sold Limousin steers to £2520 and £2420 with the consignment of twenty Limousin and Aberdeen Angus steers and heifers at ten to twelve month old selling to average £2092.63.

Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside sold a fantastic consignment of 60 Limousin and British Blue cross steers and heifer at 10/15 month old to average £2089.77., topping at £2420 for Limousin steers.

Black and White steers topped at £2040 for Holstein Friesian steers from Messrs Longrigg, Breaks Hall, Appleby in Westmorland, with a pair from this home also to £1890.

Messrs Birkbeck, Castle Hill, Soulby sold a pair of Holstein Friesian steers to make £1880.

An overall sale average of £1818.39 was achieved with the steers averaging £1857.62 (-£75.37 on the year) and heifer averaging £1786.74 which exceeded expectations with the declining prime cattle prices. Over 70 active buyers were in attendance with buyers travelling the length and breadth of the country.
