PRIME BULLS: A good entry of 87 prime bulls were forward with yet another heavy dairy bred representation forward. The biggest and best quality bulls were the best article to sell but lacked numbers.

Topping overall was a 802kg Limousin at £3288.20 from Messrs Annett, Widdrington, Morpeth. The same vendor also sold a 774kg at 15 month old sold to £3157.92. Messrs McGarva, Abington, Biggar sold the best British Blue to £3171.24 for 766kg. Aberdeen Angus sold to £2857.05 for 907kg from Messrs Wattie, Mains of Tonley, Aberdeenshire. Lighter and younger Simmental crosses sold to £2605.97 for a 751kg at 15 months old from Messrs McLanachan, Oxgang Farm, Dumfries. Three bulls sold over £4 to a top of 414 for Messrs Mcgarva’s British Blue.

Dairy bred bulls were forward in big numbers this week and sold to a top of £2571.84 for a 846kg Montbeliarde from Messrs Workman, Beeches Farm, Carlisle. British Friesian sold to £2189.88 for 693kg from Messrs Grainger, Kiln Close, Wigton and Holstein Friesians to £2045.92 for 673kg from Messrs Graham, Manor House, Wigton. Top price per kilo went to a 588kg British Friesian from Messrs Dickinson, High House, Wigton at 326ppk.

PRIME CATTLE :   A total of 81 prime steers and heifers found to sell at what appeared to be a levelling out trade! Odd things a penny or two sharper but nothing looked to sell any less on the week. The top price per head bar has been set off high this week with Messrs  Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton selling their 815kg Limousin cross to £3308.90 purchased by C.J. Anderson, Dumfries. Messrs  McClelland, Knockshinnoch, Dumfries sold 868kg to £3020.64 at 25 months. Messrs  Wilson, Petterill Hill, Carlisle sold 739kgs to £2941.22 to Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. Top price per head steer and top price per kilo overall was Messrs  Bowe, Bothel Parks, top overall pounds per head steer at 406pph.

Heifers sold to a top of £2900.72 for a 718kg Limousin cross from Messrs  Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith selling to 404ppk this was purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle the next best heifer was a Lim sold by Messrs  Blake at £2613.60 for 726kgs selling to R & JP Mullholland Butchers Shop, Great Orton, Carlisle.
