Crossfell Top The Charts At Borderway

Borderway was the place to be on Wednesday 6th May with over 1500 head of cattle sold with a turnover of almost 2.4million on the day.  Dairy trade was exceptional from start to finish, over 500 dairy cattle sold from fresh cows and heifers, in calf heifers and bulling heifers.  Demand remains super strong with buyers recorded from 22 counties across England, Scotland & Wales.  Trade topped at £3,000 with the over average for milking cattle coming to £2457. 

The sale was sponsored by Agri-King with the top price going to Crossfell Nashville Baya, a second calved Jimtown Nashville daughter selling for £3,300 from the Metcalf Family at Crossfell Holsteins. Backed by 3 generations of Very Good and Excellent dams, she sold giving 50 litres a day.

Selling at £3200 was the highest priced heifer in milk, Brownfield Citizen Rosaline 2 from Tom Blackwood. Purchased as a bulling heifer and sold three weeks fresh giving 39 litres, she was secured by West Galdenoch Farms Ltd, Stranraer.

Highest consignment average was achieved twice at £2666, Sally Wilson from Clackmae sold 6 fresh heifers to a top of £2900 for a Copyland daughter calved at the end of March and giving 39 litres.

The Baillie family from Dalserf sold 3 to the same average of £2666, to a top of £3000 for a second lactation cow from Denovo Sizzler. Fresh two weeks and giving 42 litres she was purchased by Messrs Jackson.

In-Calf heifers sold to £2600 on two occasions, first was for a non-pedigree heifer from Robert McColm. Due soon to Aberdeen Angus she was purchased by Messrs Edmondson, Ulverston, Cumbria.

Messrs Scott from Carrick Dean also sold a Holstein heifer due in June to the Simmental for £2600 to Messrs Wilkinson, Wigton, Cumbria.

Short-bred heifers sold up to £1900 for a Holstein heifer due in December to the Aberdeen Angus from the Marshall family who dispersed the remainder of their youngstock from the Auchenleck herd.

Bulling heifers sold to a top of £1700 twice for Holstein heifers from regular consignor Messrs Moffat, from Lanark.
